The outside of this Shasta Lark camper may look pretty average, but the inside is where this one really shines. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $2,125. Unfortunately, it is only sold on a bill of sale (the seller doesn’t know what year it is), so any prospective buyers would be wise to check their local laws regarding getting a replacement title and/or registration requirements in their area. Currently located in York Haven, Pennsylvania, it looks like a fun project that wouldn’t take much to get roadworthy. Have a look.
This thing is so retro-cool! Check out the avocado-green appliances and counters. The floral-print upholstery adds to the look along with the checkerboard flooring. Overall, this camper looks like it is in amazing shape. The seller says it hasn’t been abused, but there has been some water inside at some point that caused some de-lamination and warping issues in the corners. The refrigerator works and has a working freezer as well. The gas stove is said to work fine, but the seller says the rubber portion of the gas line should be replaced.
There are three sleeping areas in the camper. The front dinette folds down into a bed while the rear bed can be a single (or double) with a bunk above. Overall, great use of space and great for a couple or family with a few small children.
There is no shower, but the bathroom does have a commode. The seller says “…It is floor mounted and it is a electra magic by thetford has a pull valve to empty it, think its a composting toilet we have never used it.”
If a prospective buyer is looking to use this camper regularly, they had better plan on re-doing every system. The seller says they have never tried or used the water or plumbing. Also, the furnace is an unknown. It features original working windows with a good roof, which is a plus.
There are places here in Florida where this thing would be referred to as real estate. Surely someone here will buy this and make this trailer great again.
I wasn’t sure this was a Shasta. It doesn’t say Shasta anywhere, and where are the signature “wings” on the back? Shasta did make a Lark however, someone took all the names off. People do such weird things. Great find, little campers are so hard to find. Most became poker shacks in the woods.
Looks like the one that Ray Milland pulled
behind his ’62 Mercury Commuter 4 door
HT in “Panic In The Year Zero”. You’re
right Rex, in Florida, they call ’em tiny houses! Not 5 minutes from me, there’s a fellow on Highway 17-92 that has a campground and rents these for as much
as $650 a month. Makes me wanna buy
this one, park it on a slab in Mom’s back
yard, and use it for an efficiency apartment so that I could get away from
all the madness around here! Then, I
could watch all the football I want and
no one would bother me on game day…
Uh well, now that I think of it, I’m not
so sure about that!
My father purchased a brand new one of these in April of 1966–it only lasted one trip to Donna Lake, during that August: No A/C, No Restroom, 6 people crammed into the “Joy of Recreational Leisure,” and the beginning of the “Great Family War of ’66,” which continues to this very day, for the few survivors of that Donna Lake Party! When I saw this photograph, it was like having the worst flashback, ever. Even Grandpa was so ticked-off after the 2nd day of that “Family Reunion Vacation,” I actually saw him lay rubber in his 1963 Ramber American (a feat which I still can hardly believe was remotely possible) escaping that horrid adventure. My little brother turned on the propane tanks one morning a couple of hours before anyone woke up–no pilot lights, no electric start for that little stove/oven in those days–and, the true mystery of that story, is how Mom sparked up her first Kent of the day, sitting at that “lovely fold-down kitchen-table” without blowing up that section of the entire park!! ~~Yeah BF, Great Fun~~
Hilarious story Smokey, and well told.
Would make a nice camp on a lake or a hunting camp in the woods.
This wood look awesome behind my ’79 Jeep Cherokee.
We had a 17 ft. 1972 like this. Better have a strong tow vehicle. They weigh over 4000 lbs!
Great presentation. The seller went to a great deal to stage this. It is clean and the rug and chairs posed outside makes it.
Not sure how one would get a title if ever. Seems always someone saying all you gotta do….until you are the one going through it. My state is almost impossible. So at the moment it should be regarded as a display piece.
My other concern something this old would have hidden black mold. If you cant do the work buy one already restored. Legal and with known vintage components restored and working.
Like Howard A, I am confused: WHAR WINGS?
To me, a Shasta isn’t a Shasta w/o the wings, period.
Definitely a ’70s vintage.
My ex and I had a 18′ . Don’t think it was a Shasta, but we actually lived in it for a few months with two cats.
I don’t like single axle trailers. They away too much and make driving difficult. Anything I get now has to have two axles.
Nice rig and it is sold. For what its worth it does have a Lark emblem on the back. Winning bid:
US $3,550.00

Angel, load a single axle trailer with 60% of the weight forward of the axle and you won’t have the swaying problem.
