Another Project Oldsmobile Cutlass F85

'62 Cutlass

Well at least this seller has this one sitting on some asphalt. The last one we featured here a few months ago was still on a trailer. This F85 was sitting in a building for 10 years in Sioux City, Iowa according to the seller. This 1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 is now listed here on craigslist for $2,750.

It appears that this project is pretty much complete. The interior will need some repair or replacement of the seats if you plan to place it in most shows. This F85 has the factory all aluminum 215 cubic inch V8 engine and an automatic transmission. The factory A/C is present in the car which many may find to be a bonus. We doubt it works, but you never know!

At this point this F85 is a “roller”. There was a mouse nest on top of the carburetor. Someone had stored the car without the air-filter and that is where a mouse thought it was appropriate to nest. We don’t know if the air-filter is included with this sale or not? There isn’t an image provided in the ad of the engine, the engine bay or the underside.

'62 Cutlass seats

The seats, carpeting and headliner will need some attention. It looks like the mouse decided the driver’s seat foam would serve as great nest material.

'62 Cutlass front right

Ted, the seller, has removed the intake on one head for inspection and says the cylinders are in very nice shape and the transmission fluid is bright red. A new gasket kit is included with the purchase. This F85 is being sold with a Bill-of-Sale. If you have any questions please call or text Ted. This appears to be a very solid project car and could be a great winter project!

Motor-on,
Robert

Nice little car, don’t see many around and I especially like that it still has the V8. Interior a bit of a wreck but workable. Price ok.

Good thing I don’t live near here!!! My wife keeps chastising me that I have enough cars to keep running with our 3 daily drivers (hers, mine, and daughters). Still, a guy can dream!!!

Cool find.. Looks weathered and well used, but definitely restoreable.. I don’t know how much of a market there is for parts, but some serious digging should net what you need to finish this one..

    I like it..

I know you guys hate my suggestions
    But
How about the right Rover parts to make a powerhouse engine, maybe fuel injected and supercharged

Is this the car with the transaxle in the rear instead of a differential? I think either this or the Buick Special had it.

Edit: Nope, only the Tempest had the transaxle.

I had sister to this car as my very first car at the age of 16 in 1969 but a Buick Special and it had a V6. My Dad bought me it for $200 and said now your on your own. The other difference was the taillights were square. That was a great little car and cheap on gas.

Just discovered this interesting bit of info regarding the 215 engine for this car. The “Jetfire Turbo Rocket” was a turbo charged beefed up 215 cubic inch available from Olds in 1962 for the F85. It had its own turbo injection fuel (50-50 water/methanol mix). Again advanced thinking from Olds, but perhaps the thinking was too advanced for the engineering.

Nice starting point and priced right. These always appealed to me. Damn mice! When I worked in a motorcycle shop I saw numerous cases of what they do to a dormant vehicle. Thousands of dollars in damage can be done by those little jokers.

Why do people leave the air cleaners off of cars…

My older brother had one of these back in the day, neat little car and even neater and really nice V-8 – really great ‘small block’ performance.. I’ve heard that two guys can actually pull the engine out, it’s so light.. This one would be alot of fun to play with, but I’m with Andy, a bit too far away and, well too many other projects on the fire now. Hopefully someone will rise it out of the mouse droppings and dust…

Cool car! I had plenty of trouble hunting parts for my 1964 and 1965 Cutlass restorations and that was over ten years ago. I don’t envy the person who takes this on as I can sympathize with the work ahead. Reproduction parts do NOT exist for these cars or most pre 1967 Oldsmobiles for that matter. Not an easy task, but the learning about the cars and chasing parts is half of the fun right?

Find one of these B-O-P’s with good mechanicals, and you’ve got one of the best strains of styling packages GM ever built.
