This 1973 Mercedes Benz 280 is straight-up original! And it hits all of the ’70s European luxury benchmarks. While there is not much information about it from the seller, some of the vital information is present. It has 98,000 miles on the odometer and it has a clean title. The seller would like $2,800 for it. It is located in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Thank you, BF Russell G, for the tip. You can view more on Craigslist.
Unfortunately, there are no photos of what resides under the hood. While the seller says this car runs and drives, not having pictures to get an idea of what condition the inline 6 cylinder engine is in could be a bit concerning. They do mention though that the right rear brake caliper sticks and the entire brake system could be serviced. Otherwise, they have installed new spark plugs, wires, and a distributor, along with new belts.
Thankfully, they do provide an interior photo to back up their claim of the car having a rare center console shifter option with an additional armrest. Everything is original according to the seller, except for the stereo, which is very hard to see in the one interior photo. The car does have the large front bumper, which was changed and restyled in the 1974 model year due to DOT regulations. Which one do you think looks better?
All the photos listed do show the body of the car well and the seller does note that the car has some rust around the fenders and in areas around the body and trunk. They do say though that the car retains its original paint. It is even equipped with color matching hubcaps which also came from the factory. The seller has many service records, dating back to 1973. If you are looking for an older Mercedes to be your daily driver, you don’t want to pass this one up.
That colour is pampas not avocado, the latter is a deeper green.
Just saying
The color is called caledonia green.
I just got this Maple yellow and avocado with 68K on the clock for a lot less than the sellers asking price. I would be weary of one driven in the salt. I’m sure there is a lot more rust than what meets the eye.
Right the exterior color may be pampas but the interior color is avocado which is what I was referring to. The avocado is not a common interior color.
I need a car that matches my refrigerator and stove. This will do.
The only Mercedes I ever bought was a 1973 220 D stick shift.
I was impressed that after 25 years the doors still closed like new.
I also like the option of flooring it and clearing out the lane behind me.
If this 280 was closer I would be all over it!
Too bad the seller did not provide enough info. It would be a nice daily driver! I remember when I was stationed in Frankfurt, W. Germany, I had a ’70 200. It was a great car, comfy ride, easy & cheap to maintain and good MPG. Why can’t MB/BMW/Porsche make cars like these anymore?
Reminds me of the one my Grandfather purchased in 1973. Oh how I wish I could have it.
