Look what Casidy found, a $1000 Transporter! Thanks Cassidy! There is very little revealed in the craigslist posting, but for $1,000 I wonder how bad this van could be. Do you think that’s rust around the windshield or dirt? If this van is not a rusted hulk this would be a real bargain. What do you think you’d find if you were in Salt Lake City and had a look at this? This is an example of why it would be nice to have someone take a look. All you’d need to know is how bad the rust is, not a full inspection. Even with the price of a rebuilt engine and the necessary mechanicals, this is still a bargain. It would be worth a lot more of course if it was an older split window instead of a bay window. If I still had friends in Salt Lake City, I’d have them take a look at it. Unfortunately, it’s a little early for a trip up Little Cottonwood Canyon for a couple of days skiing.
it would be hard for it not to be worth $1000 as a parts vehicle. but with just the 3 photos it does need a PI then an offer. i think seller needs to put more work in the listing. interesting find
My daughter does live out in Cottonwood Canyon, but if I asked her to go take a look for me? — “Dad, you don’t need another old car!”
That looks like dirt around the windshield and not rust to me. That area of the country is that really noted for having a lot of rust in vehicles anyway. For somebody in the area it’s certainly worth a look and probably agreed buy!
It’s a Bus, they all rust under the windscreen rubber on the bottom.
I’m in London now, but will be home in SLC this weekend. Can take a look at it next week if someone is serious. I have considerable bus experience, mostly in the splits, but friends with newer bay windows.
According to the map, I live about 10 blocks from this bus, but I really don’t have a place to store it nor the money to spend on it, darn it.
1973 was the year I started selling VW’s in Salt Lake City. I only owned 2 of them over the years.
My last 73 I paid $175 for. I did have to spend $90 more to have the nose pulled out so that the headlights pointed in the same direction to pass inspection. I put 40K on it with limited maintenance and only to have to replace a 45 cent part in the exhaust until the cancer killed it.
