Bargain Project? 1964 Ford F100 $1,770

There are not enough details in this listing for me to call this a bargain, we don’t know if it runs or even has a powertrain installed, but it’s got potential to be a great project. With a truck like this there are so many options depending on your taste and budget, full restoration, custom build or personally I would clean it up, make it mechanically sound and enjoy. If this truck has it’s original engine and if the rust is not a factor, I would call it a bargain. Find it for sale here on Craigslist is San Antonio, TX with an asking price of $1,770.

Since this is a ’64 model, it is the first model year of this generation F100 without the Unibody design. When this generation Ford truck was introduced in 1960 they featured a Unibody design that integrated the cab and bed. This design simplified manufacturing and made for a clean look but the design was dropped during the ’63 model year, so this truck was built with the traditional cab and bed setup that is still used today. From this angle, the body looks very straight, the doors and hood don’t close so well, lets hope thats no big deal.

The turn signals mounted in the grill are a distinguishing feature of a ’63 or ’64 model year truck. Look at the hood emblem, this is a V8 truck, which should be a 292CI although there are not any engine bay pictures in the ad. From the front view the bumper is rusted but other than being dirty, the hood and fenders look straight and rust free. South Texas is probably a good place to find a rust free truck.

The interior is surprisingly intact, this is the only interior picture and from this angle the bench seat is in good shape, but the drivers seat area is just out of the picture frame so it may be hiding something, but for the price we can’t expect much. Although not mentioned in the ad, the truck looks to be a column shift 3 speed manual. The steering wheel would be the first thing to go if I bought this truck, aftermarket steering wheels are a pet peeve of mine. Judging by the white on the interior, that is probably the original color but the exterior may have been blue at some point. Hopefully this truck will find a good home, a classic truck can be a great vehicle to own because it can be used for odd jobs around the house or fit in at the local car show. Whats your opinion on this one?

It looks like a good starting point.

I am surprised the seller isn’t asking more being that it is being sold in Truck Country.

Looks to be a nice project for someone at a reasonable price.

A friend of mine had a 62 step side that looked a lot like this. 223 six cylinder 4 speed (1st was a granny gear ). It ran really well and was dependable. This example can be roadworthy with a little elbow grease and mechanical know how.

Nice project at a very reasonable price…a refreshing change. This would be a great father and son project.

I’d look at the VIN plate and title before buying. The hood ornament and dash are not ’64. Both came out in 1965.

Actually no….they offered the big box fleet bed 61-63 along with that integral bed/body…correct on the V/8 emblem…but I also put one on my 1964 Y-Block powered truck but not the 65/66 Custom truck dash….hey is that a rare padded dash ? Nice truck for the money in that swb style.
