Barn Find Stash: 1980 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1980 Chevrolet Corvette has clearly been parked for some time based on the heavy coating of dust gracing every panel. The Corvette is in my neck of the woods, located in Plainville, Massachusetts, and it’s always intriguing to see that a fellow enthusiast has a whole stash of cars hidden away that you would otherwise not know about if it weren’t for the listing on a public website. The seller includes relatively little information, other than noting the Corvette has under 60,000 original miles and has a rust-free frame with no accidents in its history file. Find it here on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of $10,000.

The color combination is an attractive one, featuring Safire Blue Metallic over an Oyster interior. The windows left in the down position is a bit surprising unless it was just for the purpose of photos, but this car doesn’t look like one that has a fresh battery under the hood. The Corvette may not be worth $10,000 in its current condition, even with its rust-free chassis and clean history. The carpets appear to be gray in color and clean in this picture, and despite the lighter tones on the door panels, dash, and seats, the cabin looks like it would clean up well with a detailing. The listing says the Corvette is automatic, but Facebook Marketplace is not reliable in that regard – is that an automatic or manual shifter?

As you can see, the Corvette is not alone in this dusty, dimly lit garage, and while I hate it when buyers do this, it’s awfully tempting to want to scout out what else is there while you’re checking out the Corvette. It’s a shame this one wasn’t pulled out and cleaned off for the pictures, because it may actually be deserving of the asking price if the paint is still in sound condition underneath. The backglass looks sound and the Corvette is equipped with T-tops; aside from some of the black trim chipping at the corners of the rear glass, there’s not much we can tell from here. The seller calls it an “…all stock survivor,” so hopefully that holds true if you decide to check it out in person. What other cars do you see hiding in the pictures?

Its an automatic, as the shifter and the missing clutch pedal show.

All ’82’s were autos with the Cross-Fire engine. And they all had glass T-tops. Nice color combination though – they do look great cleaned up. Could make a nice cruiser for someone, but not at that price. I had a hard time even coming close to that with my Collectors Edition.

Glass tops were a $443.00 option. Roughly 14,000 cars were sold with them. Painted tops were standard.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t know what an ’82 Corvette with the crossfire engine has to do with this 1980.

I wish sellers would do some basic research, it’s not hard. It would only take a few minutes for most people to realize their asking price is what a decent driver quality late-70’s early-80’s Corvette’s sells for. There is nothing special about this car, cleaned up, running and driving it would be just another used Corvette asking a sea of similar Corvette’s on the market at any given time. As it sits, with so many unknowns, it might make a decent project for $2,000-3,000.

Definitely not worth the $10k asking price, but if you think you’re getting a 57,000 mile 1980 Corvette in this condition for $2,000 – $3,000 you’re dreaming.

I’ll take 6…..sell 5 and have a bundle left for the restoration.

Not a big proponent of this one, looks decent but that’s about it. Now on the other hand, I’d like to see more of the 67 SS396 parked in front of it.

What the heck was going on on that hood? At least clean off the dust before you make out.

Looks like it could be a decent daily driver but needs a thorough inspection.

Unless this had a colour change, the blue in 1980 was called dark blue metallic. Maybe a $4000.00 car in need of some tlc.

The Corvette may not be worth $10,000 in its current condition? It’s not worth $10,000 fully restored! This is from the turd era of Corvette.
