Barn Racer: 1927 Ford Model T Speedster

It didn’t take long for early cars to be used for racing and over the years, racing has played a very important role in the progression of the automobile. Racing, in a variety of forms has taken place all across America. One of the more affordable types of racing is dirt track racing and it has been for a long time. This 1927 Ford Model T was built for racing sometime in the ’30s. After 60 years of being parked in a barn, it can now be found here on eBay.

Dirt track racing was very popular during the late ’20s and early ’30s and the car of choice for the regular Joe was the Model T. It was affordable, dependable, and parts were easy to find, making it the perfect choice for anyone on a budget. Sadly, there isn’t much left of this car, as someone has removed the engine and drivetrain. It would be amazing to have seen what modifications had been made to it when it was still on the track. Thankfully a few modifications remain, such as the original suspension and fuel system modifications.

The interior is also missing a lot of pieces, but then again there probably wasn’t much to this interior to begin with. It had to be a rush to race this car back in the day, safety equipment was non-existent and cars from this era aren’t known for amazing handling characteristics. Thankfully there isn’t a lot of technical steering to be done on a circle track, which helped the driver to focus more on keeping the car on all four wheels.

This is going to be a massive project, but we are surprised how intact this car actually is given its age. We wish the seller had more information on the history of this car. You never know, this car may have run in some important races. We hope someone saves this interesting piece of racing history. If anyone knows more about the history of this car, please share.

I used to love to watch racing on the clay at Santa Fe Speedway outside of Chicago in the 70’s and 80’s. These must have drifted real nice on those skinny tires, even without much power.

I’d rather have this T Speedster than the Camaro VIN # from a couple of days ago.

YOU WOULDNT NEED A CRUSHER—-JUST PUT IT IN A PAPER BAG AND THROW IT AWAY—
