Beautiful 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser

1976 Toyota Land Cruiser

It might not quite be mint in color, but this Nebula Green 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser is in mint condition. It has a starting bid price of $36,500 and in order to bring this Toyota home, you’ll have to cruise to Chicago, Illinois. The price might seem a little steep for a stock US model FJ, but how often do you find ones this nice? There is a VIN listed, along with a clean title and 86,500 miles. The seller says the restoration was done in 2015 and only 1,500 miles ago. You can view more on eBay.

The restoration process included installing new shocks and spark plugs along with turn signals and light bulbs. New battery cables were put on and hooked up to a new battery. The six-cylinder engine is connected to a manual transmission has a smooth and solid clutch. They spin brand new 31×10.5 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. Once it gets moving, the seller says that the brakes work perfectly.

Under the ownership of the current owner, they have put in a new clutch slave cylinder and worked over everything electrical. That includes a new alternator and voltage regulator. They state that all the gauges, turn signals, and windshield wipers all function as designed to. According to the seller, the only drawbacks is some weather stripping that is leaking water into the cabin, a missing fresh air wire for the trap door, and a bent driver seat backrest.

The listing does well at describing this truck and providing a lot of information about it. They do note that it was bought at a Mecum auction in 2016 for $40,000. The seller started bidding south of what they paid for it, at the time of writing, no bids have been placed. This is a great vehicle, and could really serve a new owner very well, especially in a northern state as a daily winter driver.

I had a BJ 40, and they are excellent work vehicles. The best FWD I have ever owned. There used to be an o/d available, that also turned it into a good highway machine.
My only criticism of these vehicles, was that they were prone to iron worm.

Unfortunately for the seller, the FJ40 market peaked a few years ago. FJ’s aren’t quite as trendy now. High auction prices also drew a lot of cheaper SA market vehicles into the US, depressing prices further.

This FJ40 looks to be in very good condition, but it’s far from perfect. Not nearly enough photographic or descriptive detail is provided to support the seller’s price expectations. For example, with a 5-digit odometer, what documentation does the seller have to support the “86,500 original miles” claim? The remaining issues – particularly water leaking into the cabin – really should have been resolved.

No surprise there hasn’t been even a nibble yet at the starting bid.

Have to agree, the FJ40 boom has come and gone. This seller was a little late to the party!

In my opinion, subjecting this to winter driving in the northern states would be a huge mistake. The salt, slush, and snow would eat it alive. Beautiful vehicle tho, but that price………

Good looking restoration from what you can see in the pictures!! These were bulletproof in my area growing up and driving them through the woods!! Don’t think I would bring this one there though!! The owner is loosing money but I don’t think it’s a bad buy cause the price will continue to climb as they get gobbled up by collectors!!

Restored and then twice changing hands, and yet nobody can be bothered to flip the headlight bezel
