Beautiful Survivor: 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger Supercab

If you are looking for an incredible looking, strong running, and very useful truck, look no further than this 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger Supercab. Located in Caldwell, Idaho this truck has a reserve set, but it has not yet been met. The current bid price has reached $14,300 by 40 bidders. A VIN is listed, along with a clean title and 21,203 miles on the odometer. You can view more on eBay.

Everything about this truck is stunning. The photos of the engine show a numbers matching 400 cubic-inch V8 that is connected to a 4-speed manual transmission. This truck is also equipped with four-wheel drive with locking hubs, a 3-speed transfer case, power steering, power brakes that are factory disc. It also has dual batteries and a solid front axle from the factory. This truck is said to be a factory S code that is all original, never been restored, and extremely rare.

Inside is a split bench seat with a rear jump seat. The original gauges are gloriously displayed on the dash. Everything is clean and in amazing condition. It is hard to believe the amazing condition this truck is in. The seller has indicated that there is a CD player installed in the truck. It might not be from the factory, but it should make driving around more entertaining. One thing is for sure, the color combination between the exterior paint and interior color is very much a late 70’s early 80’s pallet. There is no mistake in what year this truck is from.

There are a number of photos provided, including a few of the underside of this truck. It has absolutely no rust which is an incredible feat. It is hard to believe this truck has even traveled the 23,000 miles it has on the odometer. It had to have been garage kept and only driven in the warm months for sure, avoiding rain as much as possible. At the time of writing, the price of this truck is almost a steal of a deal, so if you are wanting a 4×4 like this, put a bid in now!

Nice truck. If I was in the market for one I could be interested. I’m a little disappointed/surprised that it doesn’t have A/C but that isn’t the end of the world. Carburetor’s been changed. If that’s a stock 2bbl intake then the carb could be a 500 2bbl or even a 650. I installed lots of 500s and worked on a couple of 650s, which were major overkill. I frown deeply on all that rubber fuel hose and that plastic fuel filter. Run a filter in the suction side of the fuel pump and a steel line from the pump to the carb, unless you like to see the engine bay turn into a Roman candle. 3 spd. transfer case? I don’t think so. This would likely be a NP 205 which is a 2 spd. Unless you’re counting the 2 wheel selection as a speed. Overall I like most of what I see. I would prefer a truck without the decals but it’s hard to be choosy, especially with a relatively premium vehicle that’s the same age as my kids.

When I see these “low” mileage vehicles I think of Max my neighbor in the late 60’s. Max traveled 6-700 miles a week on his job. To keep his cars in warranty he made an adapter for an electric motor to hook on to the speedometer cable to run the odometer backwards. What I chuckled about was he would hook it up on Sunday morning and let it run while he was in church.
You gotta love people. You know.

    Nice truck but
Something is off with the interior
Ford did a much better job of matching colors between the seats, Door panels etc… The blue seat belts look out of place as well
Not mention pedal wear and that all the factory paint is gone of the engine
    Not buying the mileage claim

This might be a cleaned up 121K truck

You are correct, there is much wrong with this truck and there is not much originality. The decals were never available on a super cab, the lower rocker trim was last available in 1976. The seat material is not correct the list goes on and on and on. These are one of the new vehicles that are hot on the market. Definitely, NOT a survivor, just a truck that has been given an eye catching decals that are now available.

With that dealer… Caveat Emptor should be at the very top of every prospective shopper’s mental checklist.

There were so many good graphics packages from this era but none that I love more than this one. Who ever designed it was an amazing artist.

That truck has an aftermarket carb, cork valve cover gasket, aftermarket radiator hose, paint steamed off the valve covers, wrong steering wheel, fake wood glove box door doesn’t match the dash trim, odd carpet, wrong seat, I could probably see more if there were better pictures. While it is a nice truck it sure doesn’t look like a 21000 mile survivor. FYI I was a Ford Dealership mechanic when these trucks were new.

Really nice well kept truck. Yes. Original survivor ..no.Ford did make good looking trucks…well used to. The graphics and two tone paint colors made for great looking trucks! Too bad those day’s are long gone now… Seems all manufacturers are the same..monotone drab colors and one body crease on the side for style. I’m glad there are still passionate people to keep these old vehicles going or else we would be stuck driving in a sea of blahhh!

1978 all but the entry level custom had rectangular headlights. In 79, all trim levels had square headlights the only exception to this rule were the U-Haul 1-ton f350s.

Many things wrong here. Seat has been re-upholstered, no rocker trim offered in this era. Pedal pads are obviously brand new, doubt if there is 21 miles on them, let alone several thousand miles. No paint anywhere to be seen on the engine.

you got it you’re exactly right I deal with these trucks and have for 35 years but this is the new in thing to do the car dealers are buying these for three to five thousand especially in Idaho and Utah. That’s real quick paint job on him throw some stickers put a few grand into him and make a huge profit. Nothing wrong with making a huge profit, gosh knows I have, but I never lie.

Sold for $17,114. Not as advertised, but seems like a nice truck for what it is.

There was no such thing as a free-wheeling package on a SuperCab. The seller is a known con artist, virtually everything he mentioned in the ad was blatant lies and mis-information. They sold a similar SuperCab a while back. Literally rolled new carpet over big rust holes, then claimed original and rust free. Everything this guy sells he mis-represents. Bad, bad apple.
