This 1930 Ford Model A doesn’t just present superbly because the owner believes it could be a fairly rare bird. It is a Canadian-built Phaeton, and he believes it might be the only one in existence. It has hibernated for around six years, but the owner feels that returning it to active service would be an easy and rewarding process. That task will fall to the winning bidder, with the owner listing the Ford with us at Barn Finds Auctions.

A previous owner restored this Phaeton in the early 2000s in Manitoba, Canada. The process was completed with a fine eye for detail, and the result was so impressive that the Ford rated a story in a Manitoba newspaper. The current owner includes an image of the article in the gallery attached to this story, along with progress photos shot during the build. The panels were massaged to perfection before receiving a coat of Lombard Blue. This gem found its way to its current location when the owner became its custodian, and he has used it sparingly since. Its travels have been restricted to trips to and from the NYC Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party. The garage-kept car has only clocked 2,679 miles since the build was completed, helping to explain why it still presents so beautifully. Every trim item was restored, as were the wire wheels. The Phaeton received a new Convertible top and cover during its restoration. Also included are matching side skirts and the associated hardware to provide all-weather protection.

During its restoration, the TLC lavished on this Ford wasn’t restricted to its panels and paint. The original 201ci flathead four and three-speed manual transmission received a rebuild, and the motor should generate the 40hp and 128 ft/lbs of torque available when it left the factory. The previous owner retained the six-volt electrical system for authenticity, which will undoubtedly appeal to purists. The owner parked the car in storage around six years ago, and it ran and drove perfectly when he did so. It hasn’t fired a shot in anger since. Still, the elegant simplicity and bulletproof reputation these classics enjoy leads the owner to believe it would only require new fuel and some rudimentary maintenance to return to its rightful place on our roads.

One of the challenges faced by owners of classic convertibles is how to hide a substandard interior. This Phaeton doesn’t present those problems because every surface was refreshed during the restoration. The upholstery is flawless, while the paint looks crisp and clean. The wheel hasn’t cracked or worn, and the gauges show no evidence of deterioration. Cars like the Model A represent motoring at its most basic by modern standards, but occupants would feel like royalty when they climb aboard this classic for a spot of weekend touring. The interior would receive nothing but favorable comments if the winning bidder attended a Cars & Coffee or displayed this classic on the show circuit.

Summer is fast receding, meaning that cooler and wetter weather is on the horizon. Typically, it represents an ideal time to park a project candidate in your workshop to occupy your time. However, this 1930 Ford Model A Phaeton isn’t that type of proposition. It appears it would only require minor tinkering and maintenance to roar into life, allowing the winning bidder to maximize their classic motoring enjoyment during the remaining warm weather. The owner feels that this gem deserves a new home with someone who will continue to protect and cherish it in the manner it deserves. You could be that person by submitting a bid, and I will understand if you do.

Pretty car. Is it currently running and driving? Stored in New Jersey? New Jersey title? Thanks!

New Jersey title clean, stored in a garage. It will probably start right up with a battery and fluid change. She was running perfectly before being parked a few years ago

She is a rare surviving Canadian built Ford Phaeton, and the restoration is so beautiful she is always the best looking Model A wherever she goes.

It would present better as an authentically restored phaeton if it had the proper pinstriping on it and a correct Zenith carb instead of the aftermarket Tillotson.

Pinstriping on the dash, that is, as the exterior pinstriping looks good.

I always wonder, if a car just needs a battery and fuel to run, why the seller doesn’t provide same and start it. Seems dishonest to me not to do so.

Because I paid 29k for it when i bought it, and had it imported and transported which cost even more. Im taking a huge loss …. This is Barn Finds, not Bring a Trailer. Someone is gonna get a great car for a great price.

I personally, if I spent that much money on it, would have the gumption to get either car running, since it would be so “easy” to do. I’m sensing “dealer” here.

I am curious where the VIN came from. Did Model As in Canada get registered against the engine number like they did in the US? If so, shouldn’t the VIN start with ‘CA?’

Can you take a picture of the engine number please?
