The late ‘60s were truly the pinnacle of American Muscle Cars, with every manufacturer fighting for the title of offering the fastest and most powerful cars. While there were lots of great options to choose from, there’s little doubt that the big block equipped Corvette was one of the most impressive options. This beautiful 1969 Corvette Convertible is packing its original 400 horsepower 427 V8 and is in good order. The seller has decided it’s time to part ways with it, so they are offering it here exclusively to Barn Finds Readers!

While the 427-equipped Corvette was the kind of car countless gearheads dreamed of owning, they were quite expensive. Just 2,072 L68s were built and sold in ’69, with this example commanding $5,321 from its original owner, as shown by the dealer invoice. With such a high price tag, for reference a GTO was nearly $2,000 cheaper, the pool of buyers who could afford or justify this level of performance was quite limited. Given how few were built or remain, values have long been on the rise.

This example has clearly been well cared for and is in beautiful shape inside and out. The engine was fully rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago. While it was out, the M21 manual transmission was also rebuilt and received a new Center Force clutch. The fuel system was replaced, with a new tank being installed (the original fuel tank-mounted build sheet has been retained). The original Tri-Power carburetors were also rebuilt and the cooling system was updated with an aluminum radiator, a new expansion tank, and an electric cooling fan. The seller notes that the engine sounds great, it rows through the gears nicely, and the side pipe exhaust sounds menacing.

The interior is in very nice shape and looks great in this color combination. Overall, it’s very presentable and could be enjoyed and shown as is. The seller has provided a few photos of the log book documenting all the numbers on the car, verifying that it is a genuine numbers-matching car. The NCRS documentation is also present to further verify its authenticity. They also have $10,000 worth of receipts for the work that’s been to the car.

The underside appears to be as clean as the top side. A look at the tank sticker shows this car was optioned with the 3.55 Positraction rear, audio alarm, AM/FM radio, power steering, and side-mounted exhaust.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a serious Muscle Car, this Corvette might just be the car for you! Between its 427 V8 and the close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, it should prove to be a very thrilling and fun machine to drive. If you’d love to have it, be sure to cast your high bid below!

+Michael bokovitz: Pretty sure the 400 horse 427 had the tri-power. Better verify for certain, Michael…..I think you’re incorrect in your statement. With respect……joel

Naw, the 400 hp had 3-2’s, with hydraulic lifters, and you could get auto trans and air conditioning.

The 400 hp also was available with AC. Basically the 390hp engine with tripower carb setup.

My mom wanted me to be a doctor. Sent me to the best schools. Soon as I turned 18, I was riding rodeo for a living. If I had only listened, I could buy this car. It’s a beauty. Sorry Mom. 😔

I luv this car ,I am not one to comment on these things ,but this is one nice Corvette, when I was in 1st grade my dad owned one of these cars, exactly like this, except for color, his was gold , he would ask me ,on the way to school, do you want to go to school or do you want to ride with me . And of course my answer was to ride with him,.he would stop at the country store get 2 cold drinks and two cigars with tips ,I would stand in the seat and steer and smoke cigar..I’ve heard the neighbors talk about it , barely remember that ,I sure remember the car,,and if I could afford it,this car would be mine at triple this bid..good luck with this sale sorry for the long comment
