Even in project form, E-Types are exciting! So imagine how we felt when a local guy called up and asked if we could help him sell three that he inherited from his father. All three are from 1969 and all three need to be restored. This is the first of the batch and although a big project, the fact that it’s a wire wheel roadster makes it totally worth rescuing. Keep reading to learn more.
Although not currently running, the seller claims that the inline-six engine is free and the 4-speed transmission shifts into gear. It hasn’t run in a long time but the seller remembers driving around the yard when he was younger. His father purchased it from a body shop and had big plans to restore it but other projects took precedence. Plan on a full mechanical restoration here.
Unfortunately, the seats and door panels have gone missing. The dash is there but a lot of treasure hunting will be needed to put this one back together. There are a lot of parts suppliers and used bits out there though so the job shouldn’t be impossible. The biggest task here might be repairing the rusty floors. The tin worm does like these old Jags so that is not a big surprise.
The majority of the body actually looks very solid. The nose has a few dings but no big holes that we could see. The worst of the body damage is concentrated on the passenger side rear quarter panel. We are guessing it was in a fender bender and the work was never finished. So plan on replacing the fender, some of the inner structure, and the door.

What color is this?
Dunno … wondering the same thing. It’s very unusual and, by all indications, is the original color.
it looks like a faded Opalescent Maroon.
Red
I’d say it is possible to repair, but it would not be for the faint of heart. I would not want this if it were free, however.
@DA – Thanks for sharing but someone will want it. Just about every E-Type Roadster is worth saving.
I saw one a lot worse than this and the guy did a fantastic restoration on it, mind you someone else was paying him to do it. They are a great touring car when mobile.
I remember reading a motoring journalist making a statement that with a Mercedes you sit on a Merc and with a Jag you sit in them and become a part of the car. I thought that was an neat explanation of what were luxury cars back then.
Well it’s possible that if you have there you could probably make one 😉 but it appears that this auction is only for one. Wouldn’t it be worth while to sell all these things together?
The other two will be listed shortly so stay tuned!
What parts go with it? Will the seller part out the other cars to sell this one? What tool kit is there, papers on history if any, any manuals, etc.?
What are the other two and their general condition?
Thank you!
The other two cars are going to be auctioned as well, so keep an eye out for those. As for parts and tools, what you see is what’s included. We will have the seller go look to see whether the toolkit is still in the car though.
Here’s Roadster #2: https://barnfinds.com/?p=565972
Well, E-type Jaguar has long been one of my bucket list cars… but you know what they say …
“There’s nothing quite as expensive as a cheap Jaguar E-type”
Jokes aside, I hope someone with deep pockets buys it and it ends up nicely restored.
Just in time for Halloween, a scary, rusty Jaguar XKE.
Checkout the cost of replacement sheet metal
https://www.martinrobey.com/jaguar
Yes, sheet metal is very expensive. That is why this car’s near-perfect bonnet and other good sheet metal make it so valuable. Plus a full and good drivetrain.
@Chris – Why don’t you just bid on this one? We have a 2+2 and another roadster coming up soon.
ATTENTION BARN FINDS:
Still no answer to questions from the seller. I am bidding but absolutely no response or contact information. Why isn’t this required for sellers?
The seller is out of town but we spoke with him and there are some tools and manuals included. He will take a few photos when he gets back but mainly what you see in the photos is what you get. Each car will be auctioned separately and the second one is already live.
Roadster #2 was a beautiful car, I really like that color
More value as a lot sale. Plenty of potential that way. This one by itself? $150k away unless you wanna get real durty!!
That’s easy, just bid on both.
how does one contact the seller? many ?s ty
gord
@Gord – We will email you the seller’s contact info. Thanks!
The VIN and mileage have been added to the listing. A photo of the tools included with the car has also been added to the photo gallery.
I’d love a parts car at this price point, but 3000 miles is along way to go to get one and shipping would make it out of the question.
