This is the second in the group of three Jaguar E-Types that we have the privilege of auctioning off right here on the site. Like the first, this is a roadster but it’s not as rusty and is actually drivable. There are a few other issues that need addressing though. This is a no-reserve auction so it’s going to sell!
We have some good news and some bad. First, the good. When the seller inherited these cars a few years ago, he took them to a local British car specialist and had him go through the engine and brakes. So this car is running and driving. It’s equipped with Jag’s big inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission.
And now for the bad news. One day the car was parked outside for a short period of time and a huge tree fell on it! The tree landed across the bonnet, cowl, and passenger side door. Unfortunately, it caused some major damage. So even though this one is technically a runner, you will need to wear goggles if you want to go fast.
The interior has some wear and tear but appears to be complete and in decent condition. There’s evidence of a color change though. It looks like the original paint may have been a light green. The current gold hue looks great though too so the next owner will have their work cut out for them in choosing a color.
It’ll be a lot of work to get everything straightened out but the end result will be beautiful! Personally, I’d be tempted to buy both this and the other roadster we are currently auctioning so I could combine the two. They are both ’69s and the other car has a good bonnet and cowl. Does that sound like a good plan?

There’s a very definite reason why an insurance company totaled this car.
Yeah, You’re not going to find LKQ parts for this one.
Unfortunately for the seller’s father, the car didn’t have full cover insurance when the tree fell on it, so it wasn’t totaled. The title is clean and clear.
The titles are clear in the seller’s name. His dad didn’t have full coverage on the car so it wasn’t totalled by the insurance company.
@Mitch – Your $150 valuation kind of discredits your other comments. A scrap yard would give you more than that for an old Honda. Even as a parts car this thing is worth a lot. ’69s left the factory with dual SUs and why would it need to be converted to euro spec? Also, it actually runs and drives.
Good points Jesse but as a point of correction this E still retains its two Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The later E’s went to two Strombergs from the triple SU’s the early E’s had. Looks like the engine bay still retains all its bits and maybe, with a little fiddling, it will start up.
The body on the other hand might need a bit more work but I don’t see a reason this can’t be restored (outside of my not having a small fortune to do it). Many cars have come back in much worse condition.

You can buy the whole intake manifold with everything new. Euro versions have 3 SU carburettors. And with the euro bulbs you see more – I remember all the GM and Ford cars that came to us with these sealed beams. It was something between completely dark and candlelight. Especially the rear lights look nicer on the euro models because they are placed above the bumper.
Mainly these are the ones from the 12 Cylinder.
If a tree fell on it, the frame is warped. You can see it well in the lopsided sitting bonnet. Good parts for an E are hard to find and when you do find them they are expensive. If I take the repair and restoration into account, I would estimate a good 50,000 €, whereas one of these in good condition can be had for 70,000.-

Drive as-is with a helmet and be a hit at every cars & coffee you go to.
How many miles on it? How many previous owners? What exactly did the insurance settlement read in reference to the settlement? Did the insurance say it was not repairable and therefore they settled? The report issued is absolute key to whether or not this car has a clean title when REISSUED to the next buyer. May be looking at all salvage titles to the next buyer that means greatly reduced values …as much as 30-35% . Please answer questions.

Reading about the lack of insurance just made it even sadder, if that were possible. Always have full coverage, even if in storage. Also, have an agreed value like Hagerty does. Best of luck to seller and buyer.

Did the math again and with assumption of frame/dash being damaged to some extent, change of factory color and all rest that is obvious…numbers do not make it.
Why did you bid on it then?
Since I am an avid car collector for over 50+ years, my memories of my 69 Jag lingered……it was good someone stepped in to remind me that this may be, at $20,000, a loss other than memories. A few thousand more in bidding plus the cost of shipping, fees…. just does not justify the purchase for me. I certainly wish the high bidder well. I do believe that the car was well bought and sold.
