BMW builds more than cars; it also builds great sport bikes. It has a long history of building touring bikes that can comfortably cover long distances. Still, no matter how comfortable a motorcycle is to ride, it isn’t always comfortable to ride with a passenger. That’s where a sidecar can be a real game changer! This 1973 BMW 75/5 long wheelbase is paired with a sweet Velorexport Sidecar. So, if you’re ready to give this bike and sidecar a new home, be sure to bid on this Barn Finds Auction!

This bike is being offered by a friend of ours here in Idaho. We listed and sold his Porsche 356 projects, and his Chris-Craft boat is currently on auction here. Since Joe’s garage is just down the road from BF HQ, we were able to check it out and take the photos and videos of it ourselves! It really is a great-looking bike, and it will likely be a hard one for Joe to see go.

The 75/5 was offered in two wheelbases: short and long. While the short wheelbase was popular with racers, the long wheelbase is less twitchy and more comfortable to ride. The 745 cc four-stroke 2-cylinder engine provides 50 horsepower, more than enough power for a 460-pound bike. Even with the sidecar mounted up, this is a fun and brisk bike to ride.

The Velorexport Type 562 Sidecar has recently been gone by specialists in Star, Idaho, and is ready to haul your favorite riding companion. It also offers covered storage space, and you can add a luggage rack for even more hauling capacity. Velorexport is still building sidecars and can trace its heritage to the oddball Velorex car manufacturer.

The seller started the bike up for us and while it has been parked all winter, it fired up and idled nicely. The battery required a jump and it probably wouldn’t hurt to do a tune-up, but it’s otherwise ready to ride.

The /5 series of BMW Motorcycles are great bikes. They look great, offer solid performance, and are great to ride. This one is the top of the range 75/5, which is the one you want if you are moving the extra weight of a side car around. And if you decide to remove the sidecar, it will just be that much quicker. So, if you’d love to hit the open road on this bike this spring, be sure to bid. And leave any questions you have for the seller below.

These aren’t the fastest bikes by a long shot, but before the Gold Wing came on the scene, these were the touring bikes to get. They are as reliable as a stone axe and will pile on the miles without complaint. They can even do mild off-road work. There’s a reason the USSR copied them when building their Ural bikes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe there were 2 frame sizes on this model, do we know which this is?

Thank you sir, just reread the article. My bad. Speed reading was never my forte.

These bikes are OK. Not powerhouses by any stretch of the imagination but they do go the distance. I’ve ridden a few of them and don’t have any problems. They won’t win any races but they’ll get you there.

But then, so will my Harley. And yes, I’ve seen Beemers broke down beside the road.

My cousin is an avid scooter tramp. He has about 25 bikes, 17 of which are Beemers. You visit his place in Hungry Horse and you walk through the shop with its sea of motorcycles into the apartment in the back. On the kitchen table you’ll likely find his latest project, (he just finished scratch-building a ’69 Beemer). Needless to say his wife doesn’t come around much; she has her own crowd…

Really clean, in all interpretations of the meaning. As said above, it’s not a powerhouse and definitely more suited for two lane roads than the super slab.
That said, “flying the ‘car” is a skill some riders find and learn quickly that 3 wheel anything machines differ very, very much from single track. This one is one to own and if the fairing in the background is part of the deal it should sell quickly to any 2 wheeler enthusiast-or as geomechs said, any avid scooter tramp that has an appreciation for a lovingly kept old school backroad tour classic.

To the seller.Love the BMW and side car. My question is total width of motorcycle and side car?? Total length as well. Trailer haul.
Would the unit be roadworthy of 1250 miles back to my home state? Tires is my main concern. Tune up??? In the pictures the housing where the drive shaft goes it looks like a crack. Is that just surface with oil following rough edges? Thanks in advance.

How wide of a trailer would I need to haul??
Condition of tires? 1250 mile road trip.
