If you’ve been on the hunt for a Mach 1 Mustang barn find, this could be the car for you! It’s been parked for the past 28 years. The seller has realized that they aren’t going to get around to fixing it up, so they are offering it here as a Barn Finds Auction with a very reasonable reserve. As far as ’73 Mustangs go, this one is well optioned as it’s a Mach 1 with the 351 Cobra Jet V8 paired to a 4-speed manual. It’s located in Isanti, Minnesota, and has a clean title.

To meet changes in the market, reduce manufacturing costs, and comply with new government regulations, the Mustang was revised for 1971. The increase in size was largely to simplify the production of cars optioned with the 429 V8. Ironically, emission regulations meant the 429 would only be offered in ’71, and the 351 became the largest engine offered. While performance levels were down, comfort increased, and reviewers at the time praised them as being capable and fun GT cars.

The interior is going to need restoration work, but it appears to be complete. The vinyl bucket seats have some popped seams and are dusty, but replacement covers are readily available. The dash cap has cracks and several additional gauges have been added, but the dash hasn’t been cut up. Replacement dash caps are available, as are dash trim and components. The seller notes that a previous owner replaced the driver’s side floorpan and it has held up well.

The 351 Cobra Jet V8 was the most powerful option for ’73, with a power rating of 266 horsepower and 301 foot pounds of torque. While it wasn’t nearly as potent as previous years’ top engine options, it was still plenty to hustle this Pony down the road. Paired with the 4-speed manual, this should prove to be a fun machine to drive once back on the road.

In terms of parts supply for restorations, the Mustang is hard to beat. You can buy every part to restore this one back to its former glory. This one’s biggest issue is obviously rust, but you can buy every panel needed to make this one right. Over the past few years, this era of Mustang has been gaining in interest, especially Mach 1s. So, if you would love to rescue this barn find, cast your high bid below. And feel free to leave any questions you have in the comment section below.

Cool Mach 1. Hats off to the owner/seller for admitting to himself that he was never going to get around to it and offering it up to a new owner before it deteriorated further.
The big-body era.
Watching!
I had an 73 Torino with the Q motor and a 4’speed. Very nice driver. It had 256,000 miles on it and I could still burn rubber up into 3rd gear. All original from the ram air cleaner down to the original exhaust. It did use some oil. This Mustang would have had a vacuum operated flap on the side of the air cleaner and a chrome lid. The present air cleaner needs to go as they are a fire hazard if the carb backfires – personal experience! This Mustang would be a great driver with some work.
Always thought that these were too big and heavy. But always loved the body style! If you still want to go fast there is alot you can do with this engine. OR, uncover that 429 you have tucked away under your workbench. The 4 speed is a huge plus!
Looks like it’s all there.Should make a gratifying project especially if you get it for a reasonable bid.
The reserve is off!
High bid takes it home Josh 🙌👍
Left front corner hit something, right rear corner hit something, right rear quarter is very rusty, Left rear quarter has had a poor bondo repair. Interior looks like it was parked with the windows rolled down. NO THANKS!
Does the engine spin or is it seized? Also, is it the original engine?
