Talk about well optioned! This 1977 GMC Jimmy had almost every option box checked. It received the High Sierra Equipment Package, the 350 cui V8, 3.73 gearing, four-wheel drive, 31-gallon fuel tank, A/C, and this awesome color combo! It’s currently located in Nampa, Idaho, but was sold new at Dean Buick GMC in Thousand Oaks, California, and spent the past 25 years parked. The seller found it and got it back on the road a little over a year ago. They’ve decided it’s time to let the next person enjoy this 4×4, so it’s being offered here as Barn Finds Auction!

The Jimmy was GMC’s version of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer, which was based on the C/K-Series of trucks. When equipped with full-time four-wheel drive, these SUVs were known to be very capable on and off-road. In recent years, they’ve become quite sought after, especially well-optioned examples. Be sure to take a closer look at this one’s option tag!

The seller invested a significant amount of time and effort to get this truck back on the road. The 165-horsepower 350 V8 was treated to a full service, including new fluids, valve cover and intake gaskets, a carburetor rebuild, new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and a transmission service. It also received new tires, a windshield, a fuel tank, a fuel sender, and new rubber fuel lines. It now runs great, but the seller notes that the factory air conditioning system is currently missing the compressor and hoses (the rest of the system is present). They also serviced the front wheel bearings and the entire brake system.

The interior also underwent some updates, featuring new carpeting, seat upholstery, and a new headliner. The seats were recovered in the correct style of buckskin upholstery, which looks fantastic. The dash, the optional steering wheel, and other touch surfaces all present nicely. This looks like a fun and comfortable place to be, whether you’re cruising around town or heading up the mountains.

The seller notes that this Jimmy has a couple of minor rust spots and the usual wear you’d expect to find on a nearly 50-year-old 4×4, but overall, it appears to be a solid truck. We would treat the rust, fix the A/C, and just drive it!

Had a new one in 1974, nice trucks. Luck if you got ten miles to a gallon of gas.

That’s awesome you had one back in 74, I was a bit surprised how much they were back then. You’re totally right about the mileage . These heavyweights love their fuel !

Solid truck, thoroughly photographed by the seller. Relatively well optioned, but not really “loaded”. Does not have: bumper guards, tachometer, tilt wheel, power windows, power locks, power tailgate window, sliding rear side-windows, skid plates, or limited slip diff.
Little rust, compared to most, but light hits to lower front & rear corners with slight bumper bending. Holes in fender and tailgate from previous after-market swing-away spare tire mount. Factory spare and mount missing from inside.
Really nice interior, with original low-back buckets retained. This is somewhat rare as the original seat structure was somewhat weak, and backs tended to bend easily. Many were replaced by later (stronger) high-back versions.
I noticed that the hood has a slight bend and has been reinforced with metal plates. While it is relatively common to reinforce square-body hoods, this can be dangerous in some types of collision. Reinforced hoods don’t crush, or fold as-designed, and may slice into the occupant compartment. The Canadian military originally reinforced the hoods on the 1976 (350ci gas) 1 1/4 ton CUCV trucks, and later cut or removed the mods due to this hazard.

My 77 had more options than this. I ordered it with all you stated plus 400 V8, oil cooler, trans cooler etc Totally loaded Mine was black with dark red interior. I basically checked off every option available LOL.

Because of these vehicles being prone to rust this appears to not be terrible. The present rust spots are in all the normal locations and are going to have to be dealt with in pretty short order, the buyer needs to get these areas down to bare metal to see if the panels are fix or replace? Always bear in mind the rust you see is half of what’s actually there. The desire ability of these vehicles is pretty high and this one is one of the better ones I have seen in awhile.

I agree Karl that this one is in OK shape being compared to a lot of other rusty ones that I have seen recently. And this one has had a lot of work done to it recently. Living in NJ until 1996 and now living in Nevada, Most of these Body styles of the 1970’s rusted away bad when they were only 10 years old back there.

Just bought and painted a 79 with the Mariner Blue and while panel. Will be interesting to see what this goes up to

Nice rig built when GM actually built quality and I would much rather have this than that thing they are trying to pass off as a Blazer today- yes I know this is a GMC.

Thank you for the comments everyone. The rust is unfortunately typical but thankfully not the worst. We had the carpet stripped out and the floorboards are clean as a whistle. I would agree if someone is looking for a restored rig, i would definitely cut out and section in any necessary sheet metal parts. I really try to present these old trucks as honest as possible. Hence why I don’t doll up the engine bay with any paint or shine products. I clean them up as much as possible but also preserve their originality at the same time.
