UPDATE: The seller has decided to relist this Wagoneer! Since we last ran it, they’ve had a lot of work done. Their mechanic rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the rear main seal and oil pan gasket, and installed a new voltage regulator and a fresh fuel filter. A copy of the receipt for the work has been added to the gallery, along with additional photos of the engine and underside. Take another look at this sweet Jeep and cast your high bid below!
The term “Jeep Country” was advertised heavily in the era of this 1977 Jeep Wagoneer. It was meant to evoke the dream and lifestyle of owning a 4×4 vehicle that could go almost anywhere, from the beach, back in the woods to a fishing stream, through the snow to a ski lodge, almost anywhere in any season with its famous Quadra-Trac 4×4 system. The seller has this mostly original Wagoneer listed here as a Barn Finds Auction!
Another tagline for the Jeep Wagoneer, the company’s luxury vehicle, was “The Aristocrat of 4-Wheel Drive” due to its go-anywhere drivetrain under what was at the time a nicely-appointed SUV in the era before they were known as SUVs. The seller thinks this example is wearing its original Firecracker Red paint and upholstery.
This appears to be a nice example without any glaring issues other than a few little nicks and scratches from regular use. The seller says it’s wearing winter tires, but all-season tires come with the sale. It was in storage until recently and has since been treated to a new carburetor, radiator, and voltage regulator. As the majority of you know, this was the era when AMC owned Jeep, and that lasted up until 1987, the 25th anniversary of the Wagoneer.
The optional Brampton Plaid seat fabric looks great and is pretty fancy for a 4×4, but the Wagoneer was a pretty fancy vehicle compared to what was out there in 1977. The seller says the previous owner photographed the floors before the new flooring went in, and they were in good shape. There is no concerning rust on this Wagoneer. It appears solid in the photos other than some normal surface rust that would occur with a vehicle located in Michigan. The headliner was taken out, so that’ll need to be replaced. Otherwise, it looks great inside.
That new radiator has to be a dream compared to the factory one, not that they weren’t up to the task from the factory. This is AMC’s 360-cu.in. OHV V8, which had the optional four-barrel carb, would have had 170 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque when it was new. It’s backed by a GM-sourced THM-400 three-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels when needed. Standard power steering and power brakes make it an easy driver, and it sure looks clean in that engine compartment. If this Firecracker Red Wagoneer appeals to you, get your bids in here on Barn Finds Auctions!

Oh this one’s got me drooling. This is my favorite year. That grill and the smaller stripe of woodgrain. Damn, I wish I had the room.
Mine too. And those slot mags!
I had one just like this in white, never let me down, went thru anything ,got me to work in some god awful weather , I drove the snow plow back then never failed me !! nice older jeep!
Very nice, but the AMC Hornet-like interior and instruments on this era Wagoneer always gets me!
Yeah, but it has a CB radio.
What’s it gonna take to buy this?
Being the highest bidder (at or above reserve) at the end of the auction.
One of my favorites of all time. Logged many miles in one of these in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The seller is listed in Michigan, How much underbody rust is present? Never hav a good look at the wheel wells and underneath the doors?
The Jeep is not from Michigan originally. Very minimal rust.
The transfer cases in this era of Wagoneers were flat out junk. The were chain driven…very sub-par design.
I think it would be nice to see a ‘buy it now’ number….
Just saying, if you had to remove the pan for a new gasket and rear seal. How much more effort would it take to repaint that that crusty, rusty pan. I’m not being picky. It just makes sense. Could be a nice ride.
I should have bought this when it was in Idaho. I really like it, and it should already be in my driveway. This one is particularly nice and would be a nice project to modernize and make last for a couple more generations.
There’s a red one sitting close to my house….just don’t see red on these very often….if it wasn’t red……
Huh, I’m literally in Muskegon. Just bought something though. Already had a ’77 Wagoneer too, but this isn’t the same one. Maybe I should go check it out…
Let me know if you want to check it out
