The first thing Honda aficionados will notice is that this 1983 Honda VF750F Interceptor has been painted “Winward Blue” by the seller. They have owned it for the last two decades and say they were getting tired of the original dark blue and white paint scheme. Some sources list the Honda VF750 as the “first sport bike”, and certainly it was Honda’s first. They have too many motorcycles, and they have this nice-looking example listed here as a Barn Finds Auction!

It was a gutsy move to paint a motorcycle known for a certain paint scheme, especially a somewhat limited-production bike only made for two or three years. We get it, though. We like what we like, and a good shop can always replicate the original paint. It looks like a high-quality color change job, so that’s great.

Honda made the spectacular V4-powered superbike-come-streetbike also known as the Interceptor from 1983 until 1985. New AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) rules stated that “super bike” engines had to be downsized from 1,000-cc to 750-cc and had to be based on production motorcycles. The company’s AMA VF750F super bike was based on the street version, as seen here. Well, without the different paint scheme. The technology was similar to the super bike, but it was kept street legal and rideable for the average person. This example has 13,229 miles, which is nothing for such a high-quality piece of engineering as this. It appears to be in really nice condition, so please check out the photos in the listing.

The engine is Honda’s amazing 748-cc liquid-cooled, DOHC 90-degree V4, which, with its four-valve heads, had 86 horsepower and 46 lb-ft of torque when new. It’s backed by a five-speed manual, and at around 490 pounds, it’s fairly light for a 750 and certainly is designed to handle well. The seller says they have the optional F1 exhaust and stock turn signals that go with the sale. It has a new battery, a fresh oil change, and things work as they should. Have any of you owned a Honda VF750F? If not, here’s your chance!

Yes, my first motorcycle, and what a first incredible experience that was! Purchased one year old in 1984, it was a jap spec. version brought to the US by a G.I. Decaled ‘VF750F’ instead of V45 Interceptor as US Version was. (somebody can fill in some details if there’s some pieces here I don’t know about)
To date, it is the highest speed I have ever piloted at 142mph Indicated. Crazy youth… Man what an incredible piece of technology at the time – Loved it :)

Cool bikes; my sister had one and it treated her well. They were didn’t handle as well as the aluminum-framed successor (like my ’87, ha ha) but like most decent motorcycles had more than enough power and chassis for reasonable fun on the streets. The engines did have some oiling problems, but there are reasonably priced modifications that can cure that.

Got tired of the factory paint job? I think that’s a BS story. Owners covered something up. Faded paint, crash damage? I don’t know but we will see in this auction how much it affects value.

Paint was old and faded and needed a fresh look

Nothing covered up , never dropped or got in a accident with it
