Before “luxury SUV” became a marketing term, there was the Grand Wagoneer. And by 1988, Jeep had it dialed in—V8 power, real four-wheel drive, leather and wood inside, and a shape that has become truly iconic. While not the kind of luxury SUV we’ve grown accustomed to, the Grand Wagoneer was the first comfortable and easy-to-live-with big SUV. Today, these rigs are highly sought after and for good reason!

This one is described as a true barn find, and the photos back that up. It shows 114,324 miles, wears its age honestly, and appears largely original throughout. The interior is a standout here, with original leather seating, factory trim, and the kind of wear you’d expect from careful use rather than neglect. It hasn’t been restored, reupholstered, or customized, which is exactly what many buyers are looking for.

Under the hood is Jeep’s familiar AMC 360 V8, backed by a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. According to the seller, it’s been tuned and is ready to go off-road, and it’s riding on new tires. This isn’t a parked relic—it’s a Grand Wagoneer that still does Grand Wagoneer things.

From what can be seen of the outside, the truck appears to present well. The classic woodgrain remains in place, the body appears straight, and the stance looks right. It’s not a freshly detailed showpiece, but it doesn’t need to be. This is the kind of Wagoneer people want to drive, improve over time, and enjoy as-is.

If you’ve been watching the Grand Wagoneer market, you already know what’s happening. Clean, original examples are getting harder to find, and prices continue to climb—especially for trucks that haven’t been over-restored or turned into something they’re not. This one still feels like a survivor that you can drive and enjoy.

It’s being offered here as a Barn Finds Auction, and it should appeal to anyone who appreciates originality, usability, and the timeless appeal of Jeep’s flagship SUV. Take a close look through the photos and let us know what you think—would you preserve it, lightly improve it, or just put miles on it the way Jeep intended?

Beautiful Grand Wagoneer
what works and what doesn’t?
Love it and wanted one so badly for years at a reasonable price. and even tough my2022 Bronco is not the class I very much enjuoy the 27 mph instead of the 10–12 mph the Grand gets.
I had one of these for a time as my demo/driver. Good reliable, sure footed off road and in negative traction situations. Comfortable but not inspiring on the highway. Mine luckily stopped in time not hit the VW sized boulder that landed on US 50 in bad weather. The VW Beetle coming the other direction was not as lucky. No injuries except the Beetle itself. If the Beetle had been 5 seconds faster it would have been a squashed bug! ( not to mention the driver) I have a friend that has one he only uses as a,snow plow. Keep a stock of rear /back windows glass lift straps. They are plastic and fail at a pretty often rate. Great when it snows, bland to drive all other times.
10/12 mpg?????? no thanks
