With just 57,000 miles, this Atkinson, New Hampshire–based example is a low-mileage, garage-kept survivor with a clean title and all the right qualities collectors and enthusiasts look for.

Powered by the legendary 5.0L V8 mated to a smooth automatic transmission, the R129-generation SL offered exceptional performance for its time while remaining a refined grand tourer. Known for their robust build quality and solid driving dynamics, these convertibles have become increasingly desirable as modern classics.

This particular SL500 stands out for its originality. Finished in its factory green paint, the car presents well with no rust and has clearly benefitted from years of careful garage storage. The sale includes both the power soft top and the removable hardtop, with the soft top’s back window recently replaced. All the relays and hydraulic pistons for the retractable top are reported to be in proper working order, an important consideration for prospective buyers.

Inside, the car offers a comfortable and well-preserved interior. The non-smoking cabin features burn-free leather seating surfaces that remain in excellent condition. The dash, controls, and switchgear all reflect the solid design Mercedes was known for during this era.

Mechanical upkeep has not been overlooked. The car recently received a new battery, and with its low mileage and history of care, it is ready to be enjoyed immediately. The seller notes that this Mercedes has been garaged for years, further preserving both its cosmetic and mechanical condition.

With its timeless styling, low miles, and careful ownership history, this 1994 SL500 is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a modern classic that can be driven and enjoyed with pride.

Would you keep this low-mileage SL500 as a collector-grade garage gem, or would you make it your sunny-day cruiser?

It was just a typo. I checked the VIN and can confirm that it came with leather, not MB-Tex. Thanks!

I do not believe these ever were offered in the U.S. with MB Tex. All were leather (unfortunately… MB Tex is awesome stuff especially for a convertible that is more exposed to the elements.).

True, Front leather. My reference was to the rear area where cigarette ashes fly. Orignal removable hard top included.

The convertible top works great. The pistons were replaced at a cost of the current Bid! Leather interior is in great condition. Comments and questions apppreciated from bidders.

One should have a fat non-discretionary account just in case those top hydraulic pistons need future attention, or drive it in hardtop mode $$$$$???

Low mileage SL500 with nice color combinations what’s not to love! I really feel the R129 will become the next SL car to collect. IMO it’s the best convertible Mercedes built. For those commenting about the top hydraulics it’s not a difficult job for an accomplished DIY person to repair. While rebuilt cylinders are available and make the repair process easier I just bought the seals and rebuilt my own cylinders. Also you don’t need to replace all the cylinders when it’s just a couple leaking. Just do what it needs and enjoy the car.
As for the wire harness it’s not a deal breaker if the harness is still original. Takes a couple hours of work and used ones are still found on eBay. As far as the rest of the car like any classic Mercedes expect to do more maintenance to bring it up to snuff. I would factor new ignition caps, rotors, plugs and make sure they are OE equivalent. Plug wires last forever. Perform a transmission service, brake fluid flush to keep the ASR and ABS happy, replace the fuel filter and enjoy the car.

@alphasud: I agree with everything you said here. I have had several of these, and bought them for low dollars to fix up. Thanks to some mechanical tenacity, the internet, YouTube, and a temporary subscription to a mechanics help board, I was able to do ALL the repairs needed myself. And saw many sources for reasonably priced parts. I would have rebuilt my own top cylinders, but didn’t need to. My most surprising find, though, was as “alphasud” stated above: new cap and rotor, and car still would not run. Was coached to buy the OEM cap and rotor, and the car ran fine!!! I would never have come to that conclusion on my own. The R129 can be a very dependable and enjoyable car. Would own another one.
