Here’s a modern roadster that blends performance and comfort in classic Mercedes-Benz fashion. This 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL550, now listed as a Barn Finds Auction in Oklahoma City, shows 87,700 miles and carries a clean title. Power comes from a 5.5-liter V8 rated at 382 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

For 2009, Mercedes refreshed the SL with a more aggressive and striking look. Swept-back headlights and a wider grille gave the front end a stronger presence, aiming to inject more sporting intent into the well-established grand touring formula. The result is a roadster that looks just as comfortable pulling up to a formal event as it does cruising a scenic highway.

One of the SL’s defining features is its retractable hardtop, and this example includes the upgraded glass panoramic sunroof. That versatility—coupe-like security when closed and open-air enjoyment at the push of a button—has long been a hallmark of the SL line.

Inside, the cabin reflects the model’s balance of sport and luxury. A three-spoke steering wheel adds a more athletic feel, complemented by a revised instrument cluster and a user-friendly COMAND infotainment system. Heated seats and the available three-speed Airscarf system, which directs warm air toward occupants’ necks, make top-down driving more comfortable in cooler weather. Woodgrain interior trim adds a traditional luxury touch, while the navigation system enhances everyday usability.

Beyond the features list, the SL550 is known for its dual personality. It can serve as a smooth-riding boulevard cruiser, then transition into a capable back-road performer when called upon. Adjustable ride characteristics and solid handling contribute to that flexibility.

With 382 horsepower on tap and a refined 7-speed automatic managing shifts, this SL550 offers substantial performance without sacrificing comfort. Add in the rollover protection system and premium amenities, and you have a well-rounded modern convertible that still feels special.

For those seeking a luxury roadster with V8 power and year-round usability, this 2009 SL550 checks a lot of boxes. Would this be your ideal weekend cruiser, or could you see it pulling daily-driver duty as well?

These are amazing cars. The buy in price is so low for a used one ($5000.00) that a friend of mine jumped in and had a great ride. Then his wife was tooling down the fast lane and the car just quit. Not even enough time to get to the side of the road, stuck next to the barrier. Scared the whohoo out of her.
$5000.00 later it was all ready to go. A couple of weeks later it did the same thing! Stranded her. A boatload more money. She said she would never drive it again. Then it quit on him. Turns out there are some unsolvable electrical issues.
They sold it for less than they paid for it.

SO I’m not suggesting that there is anything wrong with this particular car. Just offering up why they are out there for so little money.

The old saying is true. When you buy one of these, you aren’t maintaining a 5k car, you are maintaining a 100+k car

As has already been alluded to, there’s a lot, especially electrical, to possibly go wrong, and the dealer doesn’t mention any type of warranty. These vehicles are generally expensive to repair, so potential buyer beware.

These cars were known for bad wiring right from the factory . And that fact makes buying one a very bad idea . Im surprised they could give them away .since its not a question of if , but when it goes up in smoke
