Reader Gary M has done a ton of work to this ’68 Ford F-100, but has made the difficult choice to let it go to a new home. As they put it, it’s received a driver quality restoration. It isn’t overly restored, but that isn’t a bad thing! This is a classic truck you can use and enjoy as it was intended. It’s located in Arnold, Missouri, and is being offered as a no-reserve Barn Finds Auction!

Truck Before Restoration

When Gary found this truck, it was in a pretty sad state. There was rust in the cab and bed, the engine needed work, and the interior was trashed. The frame was solid, though, so he got to work fixing the rest of the truck. All the rust was cut out, and new metal was welded in. This included replacing the floorpans, the front cab mounts and repairing the bed floor. While he was at it, he fixed any exterior rust and dents. Once all the metal and bodywork were completed, it was treated with a coat of primer and fresh paint in its original color combo. Since he had the bed off for repairs, he went ahead and cleaned the back half of the frame and coated it with chassis paint.

The interior had clearly been home to the local wildlife, as it was full of acorns and debris. After cleaning it out and repairing the rust, Gary installed new carpet and reupholstered the seat. Since the glass was out for paint, new seals, felt, and a new windshield were also installed. The rest of the interior components were cleaned and reinstalled, and a smaller steering wheel was mounted.

The timing chain and gears, lifters, and pushrods were replaced to get the engine running its best. An HEI distributor and aluminum radiator were also installed. It’s said to run well now, and it sounds good in the seller’s video, which you can view below. Other service works included rebuilding the brake system with new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and brake hoses. They also installed new wheel bearings at all four wheels. The truck is equipped with a 3:50 Posi Differential and power steering, so driving should be fun and comfortable.

It’s pretty amazing to see this Ford as found, then all the work that went into it, and finally the finished product! Be sure to take a look at the gallery below to see the entire process. Gary has put a huge amount of work into it, and it looks like it turned out to be a nice driver. If you’ve been on the hunt for a classic truck that you can just enjoy, be sure to cast your high bid below!

Lots of good work done on this truck, the exception being the silly steering wheel. Now paint the poor thing.

About 5 yrs ago, I had a ’67 F100. This one looks nice. I bought mine at local estate auction in Caldwell ID for $8k. It was red & white, 8′ bed, solid, prev restored, ex inside & out. Took to a cpl shows. Had all orig drivetrain, 352 eng, 3 on tree W/OD. Only 61k miles. I sold on ebay 8 mos later for $10800 , in Jacksonville Fl now.

What a lot of work and well done on a truck that could have met its end! How did he make the wavy metal bed patches? Follow this one, and a deal for someone?

The metal came from Auto metal direct it was a stamped patch piece

I worked at the Wayne Truck Assembly plant. Look at the doors. See the vinyl panel and the chrome ring around it? I put that on the driver door. And I screwed in the turn signal lever. And if it was an automatic I put in a filler plate in the hole where the pedal for the clutch came through the floor. And I screwed in a grounding strap in the engine compartment near where the brake cylinder would go. One car came down the line like every couple minutes. When management tried to sneakily speed up the line cries went up and the union reps said stop working. Union had power in those days. Also the BRONCO was made on the same line, When those came down my job included putting in the headliner. $3,50 per hour + 9cents for working midnights. Good money … BACK THEN!

Hi Donald, so you must have had a kindred relationship with Tom Hartman, of Mary Hartman fame. Didn’t he screw in dome lights?
Funny story someone said a while back with these trucks. Apparently, they worked at a Ford dealer and helped unload new cars and trucks. One shipment came in, a 2wd F100, started but wouldn’t move. Closer inspection showed no transmission.

Do you have the invoices for all engine parts? If so can you scan and post them? Also, was any work done to the block and heads?

I have the receipts for parts . only work was cleaning out the valley replacing the lifters pushrods and timing chain and gears . I did flush the oil system out several times and made sure all the passages were flowing . compression was even across all cylinders .

one, funny, in the shop right now (I’m partial to the 6th gen as the ‘big bronk’ began w/them / Hi Boy ended w/them).

Y “funny”? Cuz a faded logo on the doors sez: “Xxxx Farm, Boise, Idaho”, the plates are the white Cali’s (’06?), and the owner bought it across the line in the state of NY…

Talk bout rough? (we specialize in rusty trucks I guess) the rear gear chewed up its own housing – both junk now. Bring on 2 more, 1 of which will wrk, a ’73.
Moved perches and shocks, on break / backin plate swap when I get back after ‘holiday’. 2WD (no High Boy) w/460 – I bet it hauled a heavy potato wagon back in the day. We’ve been “bringin back” ‘antique trucks’ (late 30s – 80s’n 90s) for 20 yrs. Chit even the late models we see (in FT use now) seem like ‘restorin antique trucks’. aahahahaa

    Happy New Year

The bidding is insanely low on this. This owner has done a lot of work on this. I have 1968 F100 that my father-in-law bought new and in 2018 after it sat for many years did a minor restoration on it. The engine work alone was close to 3,000. It looks like he has done a great job. These trucks are very popular and If I didn’t have one, I would be bidding on it.

Nice job on working on the 68 f-100. I had a 69 f-250. If it was a f100 I would still have mine.

With fuel cost all over the place it would be hard to say I would guess around $3000

“STOLEN” Tim Meyers sure got away with one here! Very nice truck and worth twice what was paid for it. Wish I would’ve seen this one. Kinda curious as to why the 2 bbl. change? That and headers are the only two things I see I would do different. Great job doing this in your garage and driveway. Sure hope Tim appreciates what he got. GREAT JOB GARY!!!

Thank you , the original 2 bbl was seized up the previous owner had installed a 4bbl with an adapter and left the 2bbl in the bed of the truck . I’m sure Tim will probably do something with the exhaust .
