A nice vacation day to me involves wandering aimlessly through a quiet museum, but a perfect vacation day involves wandering aimlessly through a car museum. There’s always more than meets the eye behind the scenes of any business, however, and a museum is no different. There’s always more stock than space, and sometimes donations are too much of a good thing. Last year, one of my local museums auctioned off some of its donated project cars, because they were far too rough for the museum floor and the odds of the museum getting to them any time this century were long. In a similar vein, Barn Finds Auctions is helping a Texas museum auction off some of its projects. Some are in better shape than others, but maybe one is right for you. We’ll include links for each offering at the bottom of the page, but read on for a quick rundown of the lineup.
One of my favorites is this Barracuda. The seller has little information on the cars, so I’ll fill in the gaps; feel free to add any pertinent information in the comments. Based on the dashboard, this is a 1965 model with a 225 Slant Six under the hood and a three-speed on the column.
This is a 1938 Cadillac Series 65 that has been completely disassembled for restoration, but is, like many projects, a stalled one.
The seller thinks that this Essex Coach is a 1925 model, which seems to coincide with its serial number. This was an important car to automotive history, the first popularly priced closed car.
Another stalled project is this customized 1950 Oldsmobile 88 with a big-block Chevy under the hood and what appears to be a mild chop to the roof.
Finally, this big limousine is a 1947 Cadillac Series 75, the most complete of the restorations-in-limbo. All-in-all, this is a fairly eclectic group of vehicles, ranging from total restoration projects to drivers that just need a little TLC. If any of them raises an eyebrow, see them in more detail in the links below.
Do you have a link to check them all out?
I think Josh will include the links once they’re all posted up.
Looks like an Intermecanica behind the Chopped Chevy.
How much for the barn?
I’d love to just walk through that barn and enjoy looking at all the cars.
The Oldsmobile has a very sad face.
Looks like someone grafted Porsche headlamp coves onto the front fenders, adding even more sadness to the look.
Where is this barn?
In Texas. There’s links to each auction at the bottom of the post.
oldies but goodies
I have been to this collection, probably about 15 years ago. I was thinking of retiring to Corpus Christi but didn’t know if I’d be a good fit socially. I went for a walk one morning on the edge of downtown, saw an open garage door and peeked inside – WOW – Aladdin’s Cave!! Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Daimler as well as MG, Triumph, Jaguar etc! I found the proper door, walked in and asked to see the collection. The owner’s daughter was very gracious and allowed me free reign. The numbers of European exotica just blew me away! I had no idea!! From what I see here though, I guess the collection has already been picked over. But good luck with the auction – still very nice cars left!!
Are you going to auction the jaguars???
Do you have a link to the XK and E Type parts?
