UPDATE – The seller has added a walk-around and start-up video!
There’s something special about a well-kept R129, and this 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL looks like a strong example of why these cars continue to earn respect in the collector world. Now up for auction in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, this SL shows just 67,000 miles, carries a clean title, and is being offered without a reserve!

Under the hood is Mercedes’ 5.0-liter V8, rated at 322 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, the 500SL delivers the kind of smooth, confident performance that made it a flagship roadster in the early 1990s. These cars were engineered to feel solid and composed, blending V8 power with grand touring comfort in a way few competitors could match at the time.

Finished in Signal Red over a saddle interior, this SL offers a classic and highly desirable color combination. The listing notes that it includes a matching removable hardtop, giving buyers the flexibility to enjoy open-air driving or the quieter, more coupe-like experience when the hardtop is installed.

Equipment reflects the premium nature of the 500SL. Power windows, power mirrors, power steering, power brakes, and power adjustable seats are all part of the package. Alloy wheels complete the look, and the car is riding on new Goodyear tires, which is a welcome update for a vehicle ready to be driven and enjoyed.

The R129 generation marked a significant step forward for Mercedes-Benz roadsters, offering advanced engineering, strong build quality, and timeless styling. Today, well-maintained examples with reasonable mileage are becoming increasingly appreciated for both their performance and their everyday usability.

With just 67,000 miles, desirable factory specifications, and a clean title, this 1992 500SL represents a compelling opportunity for anyone seeking a V8-powered Mercedes convertible from an era known for overbuilt quality.

As this auction moves forward, it will be interesting to see where bidding lands on this Signal Red roadster. Would you keep it as a refined weekend cruiser, or start putting miles on it as a modern classic you can enjoy regularly?

Currently own a 93..im not sure of what years, only know mine is one of them, that those brilliant German engineers decided to make the wire harnesses with biodegradable insulation..be warned..lotsa electrical problems
Looks like an old Mustang with a Mercedes badge!
I learned to stay away from those, unless you like to re-wire the entire car and replace all the wires with crumbled insulation. I guess if you like to keep it as a stationary ornament it should be ok
Hope the HOA doesn’t have a regulation against stationary vehicles, sitting in the drive.
The seller has added a video of the car starting and running. The engine sounds good and seems to be running nicely. You can find that above the photo gallery.
Also, here’s a great video from Hagerty about the development of these cars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0wr0pdXjy0&t=1355s
The R129 is on my bucket list and if I didn’t have multiple kids that I have to haul to school, I’d be bidding on this one!
Just don’t. Unless you are good with replacing wiring looms.
I’ve replaced engine looms in other Mercedes, both newer and older models. It’s time-consuming, but not that difficult, as long as you can find a replacement harness and can access all the connectors. I haven’t looked yet to see if new replacements are available, so that’s worth investigating.
I would imagine that by now most of those still running have already had their wiring replaced or repaired.
The seller has added the CarFax as well as receipts for the water pump. They are still looking for receipts for the top hydraulics, as those were done recently as well.
Not that it matters. It’s still a very undesirable car. It is a widely agreed on fact.
NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE!!!! B CAREFUL
Aside of all these unfavorable model issues. It’s come to light that this car was in an accident according to carfax.
Oh wow $6000 lost. Poor fella. Good luck to you anyway
