BF Classified: 1972 Ford F-250 4×4

Old Ford trucks from the ’70s always remind me of my grandpa. For much of my youth, he drove an aging but clean ’74 Ford pickup, all black with a square-rigged cap over the bed. As a kid, I wasn’t much of a fan, but I’ve grown to love Bumpsides and Dentsides, the respective nicknames for 1967-1972 and 1973-1979 Ford trucks. It’s no secret that I’m also drawn to the faded and flawed cars and trucks you can use as one did when they were new. This ’72 F-250 is precisely that kind of vehicle, and it’s being offered for sale as a Barn Finds Classified.

Under the hood is the 360 FE, the engine that powered almost every ’70s Ford truck: It has the 390’s bore and the 352’s stroke. Only offered in trucks, this is a low-compression engine that’s designed to pull stuff around all day (albeit slowly and somewhat inefficiently). The seller has given the 360 a carb rebuild and a tune-up; it runs fine but smokes a bit. The odometer reads 92,530, but there’s no telling if it’s accurate. Maybe the smoke will dissipate as you put some miles on it, maybe not.

The interior is original except for the cool vintage seat cover. Some people don’t like green, but I would have nothing else for my ’70s truck. More importantly, it’s a four-speed four-by-four, so there’s nothing you can’t do, and nowhere you can’t go in this Ford. Everything in the interior shows wear, but it’s perfect if you are buying this truck as a fun alternative to a newer truck (or as a work truck). You can fix it up as you go if you prefer, or you can leave it alone.

Perhaps the only head-scratcher is this: Somebody in the dim past decided to weld a steel floor on top of the old rusty one. If you want to restore this truck, this is a bit unfortunate. If you’re buying it to use for truck things, however, it’ll do the job. The seller is very clear that there is some rust in the fenders, doors, and floors, but it’s solid on the whole for a northern truck. As I often say when looking at cars for sale, if you’re from the southwest, it’s rusty; if you’re from the north, it’s not.

This ’72 Ford is located in White, South Dakota, with an asking price of $7,500. These old F-250s benefit from good parts availability and are perfectly usable today, so let us know if you pick this one up and how you plan to use it.
