Mercedes-Benz’s R129 SL has aged into one of the great modern-classic roadsters, combining V8 performance, bank-vault build quality, and genuine long-distance comfort. This 1994 Mercedes-Benz SL500 has had just three owners, benefits from a long service history, and presents far better than its 136,000 miles might suggest. Located in Bolton, Connecticut, it is offered as a Barn Finds Classified with an asking price of $12,000.

This SL500 was purchased new in 1994 from Carriage House Mercedes-Benz in New London, Connecticut. The original owner reportedly kept the car until 2007 and had most of its service performed at that dealership. The second owner also lived in southeastern Connecticut and continued to service the car through Carriage House. After his passing, the estate sold the car to the current owner, who has continued maintenance through P and P Automotive in Manchester, Connecticut.

Under the hood, we find Mercedes-Benz’s 5.0-liter V8, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The seller states that the car starts easily, runs strong and smooth, and drives the same way. These R129 SLs were built for effortless touring, and with 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque, the 5.0-liter V8 delivers the power needed for high-speed cruising.

Recent work under current ownership includes regular oil changes, new leather seat covers, brake and radiator fluid flushes, new Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires in 2020, new front wheel seals, repacked front wheel bearings, a new hardtop headliner, and a new driver’s window motor and regulator. Finished in dark teal metallic, this SL500 has a distinctive and attractive look compared with the more common black, silver, and white examples. The seller notes that the paint shows very well overall, with some small touch-ups visible in the photos. The body and underside are described as rust- and rot-free, with only minor surface rust present.

The interior appears to be a major strength. The cabin features tan leather, power heated seats, electric tilt steering column, Bose cassette/CD stereo, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, cruise control, traction control, airbags, ABS, and air conditioning. The seller notes that the driver’s headrest does not adjust, only the rear speakers are currently working, and the air conditioning blows cool but not cold, likely needing a recharge.

Both tops are included. The power soft top is functional and does not leak, though the seller notes two small tears in the soft-top headliner that do not affect weather protection. The removable hardtop is also included and is described as being in gorgeous condition with a new headliner. For someone looking for a usable R129 rather than a garage queen, this 1994 SL500 checks a lot of boxes. It has attractive colors, long-term documented care, recent maintenance, V8 power, and a clean title. With continued upkeep, this Mercedes-Benz roadster should have plenty of enjoyable miles ahead.
