After we featured this 1977 Ford LTD in 2022, reader Jeff M bought it on a bit of a whim. Its previous owner used it as their daily driver, and Jeff has continued to use it on a regular basis, but he doesn’t have garage space for it right now and decided it deserves to go to a home where it can be kept indoors. It’s now being offered here as a Barn Finds Exclusive in Royal Oak, Michigan, with a clean title and an asking price of $3,300.
The LTD line was Ford’s upmarket trim level for their full-size offering, putting it at the same level as a Mercury in terms of standard features. Its long wheelbase provided ample legroom, even in coupe form, and a smooth ride. Styling was similar to the Mercury Grand Marquis, which it shared a platform with, but it was more understated.
The seller admits the car has some flaws, but that it runs and drives well as it. The carpet has been removed and will need to be replaced. There’s also a tear in the driver’s seat. The dash appears to be complete and in good condition. A set of aftermarket gauges were added by a previous owner to give you more details on the car’s health. The seller states that all of the lights and systems work as they should.
This LTD is powered by a 351M V8, rated at 149 horsepower. The 351M was based on the 400, so parts are plentiful, and there are lots of performance upgrade options for those seeking more power. The seller states that the engine currently runs well and sounds great. A previous owner installed a dual exhaust system, so one popular upgrade is already done. The car is riding on a new set of tires.
The seller notes rust issues in the A-pillars and a hole in the floor pan. They’ve provided photos of the issues for closer inspection. They admit it might be best used to build a hot rod or as a demolition derby car, but they hope someone can keep it on the road instead of sending it to the scrap yard. What do you think? This is not something you see running around anymore. That front end struck a memory when I saw the picture with the headlights on…telling a buddy “hide that beer, there’s a cop behind us!”

Raised whites and dog dishes look great on this car. One of the few cars that look good as a sedan, too. Nice highway car.
This Ford LTD would be a great car for a rat build or a mild custom. Minor rust issues aside $3300.00 or a near offer would also be good basis for a daily driver car. Love these old Fords. Had a 1969 LTD Brougham fordor back in the early 80s. Great car and rode better than any Cadillac or any gm brand.
