UPDATE – The seller has reduced their asking price!
I like dystopian literature as much as the next guy, and books such as Nineteen Eighty-Four and Fahrenheit 451 captured my imagination by proving that not all literature needs to involve a happy ending. My dystopian fix, however, might have been better served by watching The A-Team. Think about it, any world that highlights a group of aging underground veterans running from the law and handing down some good old-fashioned vigilante justice doesn’t seem like a happy one. Although I was more of a Knight Rider kid back in the ’80s, I knew enough about The A-Team to realize that anytime you saw one of these army green Blazers, some stuff was going down. If you want to relive those ’80s TV vibes or simply look like you’re on an off-road mission, you may be interested in this 1986 Blazer, located in Spencer, New York. It’s diesel-powered and listed as a Barn Finds Exclusive with an asking price of $17,000.
The military-spec Blazers were built to handle anything that might be thrown at them, and our featured truck is upgraded beyond that. Beyond the 6.2-liter Detroit Diesel V8, which originally produced 135 horsepower, this K5 has the following:
- Dana 60 front axle with 4.10 gears
- GM 14-bolt rear axle with 4.10 gears
- HMMWV two-part, eight-lug wheels with 33×12.5 BF Goodrich tires
- Four-wheel disc brakes with new rotors and pads
- Muncie SM-465 four-speed manual transmission
- NP205 solid gear drive transfer case
- GM-8 turbocharger
- Electric fuel pump for easier starting in cold weather
The seller has replaced the driver’s quarter panel and door skins and splashed on some army drab to even things out. It also has a new khaki Softopper vinyl top to cover the rear seating area, along with new door sills. There are some interior issues that the new owner will have to work out. The “front interior needs some completion.” At present the odometer is showing 71,000 miles.
Approximately 70,000 of these military Blazers were manufactured between 1983 and 1986, and it is likely that a significant number appeared on the television shows of my youth. Although this one has been stored for a few years and requires some finishing touches, it is one of a rare breed these days. And after all, you never know when you might need something that looks like it could take on anything. It’s a tough world out there.

Cool rig 👍 😎
….And if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.
Would love to see a plan come together for this truck.
Needs some TLC to get the cooties out of it. Bad bondo work, probably a lot of rust. The 6.2 was ok, but I have to wonder how it would hold up with a turbo. I’ve seen main bearing webs broken on these. That wiring and interior/dash, IDK. What’s that wire hanging down under the engine? You’d think that a better presentation would have been in order.
That’s pretty high mileage for a CUCV. Plus it looks pretty ratty. I guess it’s ok for a $700 parts truck
Wait $17000, not $1700??? That has got to be a practical joke somehow
I missed that. Delusional.
Possible former ramp rat vehicle(Air Force) If that’s the case, the truck probably has 270,000 miles
If I remember correctly from my service that these things had a 24 volt electrical system which means well I don’t know where to start.
Noticed the 82nd Airborne bumper stencil so that might explain a few things like what a truck looks like after it was tossed out of a plane.
I have driven a few of these CUCVs I remember them being so full of rattles it was scary. The engine’s in these were very gutless and putting an aftermarket turbo on it certainly not going to make it more reliable. I have never seen one with a manual transmission very doubtful that’s original. The wiring, I don’t even have words for that?
They had TH400 in them. This thing has so many cooties.
The best thing they can hope for is for this truck to quietly go away.
If I hadn’t retired 25 years ago, I would offer to take it downrange.
Drove these in Germany in the mid 90’s in the USAF. We had a few of these, mobile Radio (Radio Maintenance, Vogelweh). I can assure you when encountering a Stau on the Autobahn (mind you we were lucky to cruise at 70mph) these beasts WILL lock up all 4 tires, lol.
As a young Marine stationed in the Philippines, I had one of these to abuse. And abuse we did! We beat the crap out of it every chance we got, they were good off road and we drove it like we were in the Baja 1000. Good luck with the sale, but I would get a Hummer instead if I wanted to go this route.
Occasionally used one of these when I was a contractor working OCONUS the 6,2 was a PIA the only fuel we had was JP8 so we had to add oil to the fuel and im talking like 2 gals for a full tank of JP8. The thing was beat to death and only had about 40k miles on it. I hated getting the thing from motor pool cuz we still had a Dodge 3/4 ton M37 that ran without a lick.
$1000 car all day long.
Better make sure that the fire extinguisher works, looks like you will need it with that wiring. Insurance won’t cover that I bet.
