A sports car-truck? Sports truck? We’ve seen many Ford SVT Lightning pickups here on Barn Finds over the years, and I’m a huge fan of the first-generation models. This one is a bit unusual, being fitted with a custom owner-fabricated rack on the back! This 1994 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning is located in Madison, Connecticut, and they’re asking $7,200. It’s listed here as a Barn Finds Exclusive!ย

This almost looks as much like a work truck as a sports truck, with the rack on the back. You can see some clearcoat issues with the red “Crimson Clearcoat” paint, and there may be a ding or two from being on the planet for over 40 years and having been used as a work truck for almost half of its life. The rack can be removed easily, just for the record. 1,165 Crimson Clearcoat SVT Lightning pickups were made for the 1994 model year, out of 4,007 total.

Despite looking like a work truck, that doesn’t mean it was used by random workers; no, it was used by the father of the son who bought it in 1997 from the original owner. The dad took it over two decades ago, made the rack for the back, and used it as a work truck. Ford made the first-gen SVT (Special Vehicle Team) Lightning for only three years: 1993, 1994, and 1995, and they were based on the ninth-generation F-series F-150. Here’s what the lined hauling bed looks like. And in a move that caused the earth to tilt off its axis, the seller has included a photo UNDER the bedliner! Well done! They have also included several underside photos to show how “normal” it looks, as in, general surface rust, but reportedly no rust issues.

None of the SVT Lightning pickups came with a manual transmission, but it’s the first thing I still look for out of habit. I’m sure a few have been converted to a four, five, or six-speed manual over the decades. They had Ford’s E40D four-speed automatic with a column selector, and this one is said to work as it should. They mention that the power mirrors can be glitchy, and there’s a slight leak in the power steering system, which is reportedly a $35 part.

The engine is Ford’s 351 cu. in. OHV V8 with 240 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque when new, and this one is said to run as it should. With 167,000 miles, and those have been well-maintained miles, according to the seller, there’s no reason this truck can’t be in use for many years with regular maintenance. This is a lot of truck for the money, so please check out the photos and contact the seller with any questions you may have about this 1994 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning listed here as a Barn Finds Exclusive!

Those wheels are in my top 5 of oem wheels ever made. Hopefully, someone buys this and restores it. It is worth it.

    Morning all,
Before everyone starts into “if it’s only a $35 part, why didn’t you replace it?” routine, the owner is an 80 year old widow. While she’s active enough to still drive their MGA ragtop, she isn’t mechanically inclined or physically capable of getting under it and replacing the cooling/return line. Her son isn’t either. I can’t for insurance reasons..long story.
Anyway, it’s a great running truck, the typical clear coat issues Ford was infamous for are present.
Interior is in excellent shape and the air bag bolsters and lumbar still work.
The engine has a great rumble and easily pushes this truck up to 60 in just a few seconds.
It’s a very solid base if someone was inclined to restore it. I’d probably grab some VGG clear coat and lay that out over the red. Then drive it to cars n coffee, local cruises, out for ice cream, etc. might even haul some garbage to the dump… Quickly ๐Ÿ˜
As usual I have a ton of photos and video on request.

What’s amazing is back in the 90’s, people actually thought this was a good looking truck.

Sorry bull, that’s not my doing.
But I am a member of Barn Finds, have been for years and $100 a year is about the same cost as a monthly magazine. I get a daily dose of Barn Finds for that and it keeps the bills paid for the site and let’s them produce a quality product.
      Fully understand your angst though.

The engine description is incorrect. States a 351 Cleveland. This engine was a Windsor based engine. Also, the grill came body colored, not black. It’s also missing the front spoiler and driving lights. On a positive note, the rear tube bumper and center seat console were a rarely seen option.

if the p/s problem is 35.00 part then fix it instead of being cheap. my guess is its more than that

Pressure hose, betcha anything that’s it. 35 bucks is about what they cost. They have a swivel fitting right out of the pump that’s got a nasty habit of leaking. it’s stupid messy to change but aren’t they all?

Redneck Lightning! It would fit right in with these FL hillbillies. Make it fast & do absolutely nothing to the outside.

I wish I had a spot for it but no room at the inn.

Lucky me! I have owned my 1994 Lightning since 2000 and it is equipped with the middle seat and tubular rear bumper and has 105,000 miles on it. My “GG” – for Gas Guzzler – is the original White from the factory. The grill on this should be red and the front fog light spoiler is missing. However, this is a very, very good and low price for this truck especially how it’s equipped, especially the rims, seats, interior and rear tubular bumper.

Somebody is going to get sweet lighting project. The best part is you can drive it as you work on it. Only 2 hours away, wish I had deeper pockets and didnโ€™t already have an standard cab obs, shortbed 94 in black in similar condition. Of course mine isnโ€™t a lighting either!
