Big Barn Find: 1960 Cadillac DeVille

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1960 Cadillac DeVille is said to be a two-owner car that shows only 42K miles on the odometer! Located in Palestine, Illinois, it has been sitting for about 30 years but was running only 15 years ago. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of just over $6,000. At that price, this thing is so heavy it probably hasn’t reached its scrap value yet! The car has been pulled from its resting spot and cleaned up. It looks great now…check it out!

The interior looks very good. You would think that the roll of paper towels would have been removed before the photo was taken. Hopefully, it isn’t hiding any flaws in the upholstery. You can see the hubcaps on the floorboard. This is a pretty common storage technique for these cars since Cadillac hubcaps are not only valuable, they seem to be a treasure for thieves for some reason. With the wrap-around windshield and mile-deep dash, it looks like it would take a gallon of protectant to get it shined up.

The engine is a 390 cubic inch V8. The seller says that the electrical systems work, but they don’t really mention anything about the specifics of the engine other than it appears to be locked up. This car was produced a few years before the big cubic inch engines powered these cars.

Here is the car after it was pulled from its resting spot and cleaned up a bit. It looks very clean and relatively blemish-free. The styling of these cars is awesome. While 1959 was the peak for the rear fins, 1960 still has some tall ones! Do you like these big ol’ Cadillacs?

Wow! Detail it and drive! Styling being a subjective matter the only real faults these have are the colossal size and fuel thirst. However if you drive with a light foot you can coax a bit more mileage per gallon.

Not going anywhere with a locked engine! Maybe the mystery oil treatment would free it up, though.

IMHO a much better design than the ’59. 2nd pic of the interior reveals discoloration( mice nest?) of the front bench… Cool barge though; any tree-hugger’s favorite!

Speaking of tree huggers, a friend used to have a mint 1962 formal limo.

We drove it to the store one day and some old woman yelled at my friend that he should be ashamed for driving such a big car and wasting so much gas. He ignored her, which was good because the only response she deserved was a punch in the face.

What she didn’t know, was that the car was actually a small car for him considering most of his other cars were hearses and ambulances.

As a tree hugger, liberal, and lover of all old cars, I feel the need to respond to the leader of the nagging naybobs of negativity.

Some people seem to have a talent for finding the dark side of things, and that gets wearisome. If you hate everything, why not find a site of like-minded curmudgeons and wallow in your own misery and leave us out of it.

I don’t consider the environment a political topic really, but I do wonder where some factions think they are gonna move to once this planet is despoiled.

Well Miguel; I’ve had a personal incidence very similar to your friend’s, and such comments should only be ignored without further action. Most self-proclaimed environmentalists don’t realize 50-60 year old cars see limited usage.
I’ve never understood what they’re crying for – rather than constantly buying new vehicles, breathing new life into an old heap must be recycling at its best…?!😁

I saw one of these at a show a few years ago, and even as you are standing next to the car, it’s hard to believe how big these things are. I like big boats and I cannot lie!

There is a fond following of this era “Americana” in Sweden. They’re simply reliving and enjoying those years gone past in heavy metal style…

Now that the seller took the advice of almost everyone here and washed this barn find, I wonder how much more money will be realized.

I’m stunned. They ACTUALLY pulled it out of the garage and CLEANED it! Is this some alternative universe?

Was there a difference between a Sedan DeVille and a Fleetwood?

A Fleetwood is a big step above a Sedan. Nicer interiors with foot rests and fold down tables. Plus the exterior trim is better.

What a boat!! It should be saved!! I really can’t believe the writer referred to it in a scrap value!!! At $6000 if you could get the motor unlocked and rebuild it you could have a really nice cruiser!!! If my kids still played soccer it would make a better soccer mom mobile that the ugly mini van route!!!

Constant tinkering w my 64 with 429 got 20 plus mpg. 390 might also respond.

This is what is referred to as a six window sedan. The four window sedan was the flat top which is uglier than a pile of dog poop.

I love the flat tops. All of the GM makes had them. They are very cool.

        To each his own, Paolo.
My father had a 1960 Cadillac flat top, in dusty pink. I hated that car and you know I love Cadillacs

A flat top looks much better than 6 windows. The flat top looks lower and therefore wider because it has a lower glass profile than the 6-window body. The flat top has the same windshield as the coupe.
It also visually has a longer trunk, since there is a rear deck filler between the rear window and the trunk lid, and 6 windows has a rear window that reaches the trunk lid.
That is why in my opinion a Cadillac with a flat top looks much cooler than a Cadillac with 6 windows.

Nice car, the perfect cruiser to take Greta Thunberg for a ride in. I bought an identical ’60 Caddy back in the ’80s for $400 though it had a white exterior. It was in pretty good shape back then and ran well but was a thirsty beast. It was about 25 years old at the time and still generated a lot of looks and comments when I was out and about with it. Didn’t keep it long and sold it for about what I paid. I remember it ran well and was dependable. Not the best car for driving in the snow though!

This is a very nice example.

I doubt the engine is really Frozen.

I think with a few guys help from this site I could have this running again before sun set.

    Name the day.😁

Miguel, that wasn’t Paul that got chewed out by the old environmentalist nag, was it?
I was chewed out by a younger battle axe like that. I was driving a 1974 Cadillac Combo car. I reminded this creature that was raising her voice to me that her wonderful Prius has all of those batteries that will end up in landfills, polluting our atmosphere for hundreds of years. I then threatened to put her in the back of a car like mine of she didn’t get off my back. Maybe I could have handled it different lol.

As for the towels, just shows someone trying to clean. As for scrap, value gone. Chinese buy our scrap and make cheap engine cranes. Keep our iron and ride.
