Big Block But Rough: 1974 Corvette

corvette

It’s certainly not going to win any shows at the moment, apart from the Concours D’LeMons, but this 1974 Corvette big block must have been loved at some point.  It has been modified at some point in the past to feature exposed rectangular headlamps, large sidepipes, and an MSD (Multiple Spark Discharge) box. And with the fan sitting on the passenger side floorboard, there has to be a story under the hood as well that probably isn’t a good one. But, I hear you say, it’s a big block 454 V8! Thanks to Paul G. for this find, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The car is advertised here on craigslist for $3,000. I’m guessing there were once nice wheels as well; those look like they came from a V6 Camaro. I don’t know how difficult it would be to acquire original type headlight assemblies, but with all the Corvette specialists around it couldn’t be too hard. Do you think this one is worth the money?

The headlights look like they are from a 90s camaro as well. They look good on a Camaro they look cheezy here.

Headlights are an Eckler’s conversion. You either love them or you don’t, but there’s no putting the OE buckets back in without redoing the front end. It’s not a ’74, either – no split rear valance, unless that was replaced as well. Might be a good price, or not, depending on how much rust is present in the cage. Seller thinks he has a rare car.. do your research, of course. It is not the last year for that body style.. bubble back windows appeared in ’78.

Right there with you, Rick. I noticed the wrong bumper cover too.

Seeing one exposed to the elements like this makes me scared to look at the condition of the bird cage and frame.

Not a lot of money to get into the game, but the end result might scare your wallet.
