Blank Slate: 1941 International Metro Van

41-international-1

Many decades after this International’s last delivery, it looks to have become a living space for someone. Mostly solid with interesting style and loads of potential, this ’41 International would make an excellent project. Currently bid up to $1,575, this could be an excellent opportunity. Find it here on eBay out of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

There is an obvious patina on this International, but there is no visible rot in this one. There are some wavy spots in the rear driver corner of this truck but overall is fairly straight. There are still glass raspberries on the sides of this one, and overall this trucks look complete, minus some headlight trim. The front end of this International is solid and nice with its slatted grill. The wheel arches and rocker areas look great with no rust present. The rain gutters look good with no visible rot present. There is still evidence of this trucks past, but it is difficult to make out. One thing for sure, is that this truck was based out of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

The driver area of this International is simple and decent, but the glass is a bit rough and it would appear that the windshields have been replaced with sheet metal. These new windshields look to be calked into the body where they can easily be removed for a more driver friendly glass option. The interior reveals an interesting past, lined with shag carpet, Sports illustrated covers, and a home interior light fixture. It would appear that this was once someone’s living space. One cool feature about this International is the pull up “garage style” door. This International is still equipped with its original drivetrain though its condition is unknown. It seems that this International is a blank slate and could be re-commissioned into something other than a delivery type truck. A camper would be an obvious choice as it once was for someone. We can also see it as a food truck, or a parts hauler/motorcycle hauler, or even a tow rig.

With a solid body, and plenty of potential, this cool International Metro Van would make for a great project. What would you do with this International?

I see a pretty cool Resto-Mod, but save the original drive train cause if it can be rebuilt to run why not tweak it a bit and keep it all together.
If not, save the parts someone somewhere are looking for them. Then insert a nice engine/ trans combo of your choice and let your imagination go!! I am thinking Hemi….

Tool shed out back, maybe painted camouflage, so it blends in. ( although, it’s pretty close right now)

Clear coat the body, install monster motor with blower. Put motor behind driver, make it look like it’s in a crate.

My wife agrees that the “living space” feature would come in handy if I dared to bring this thing home.

I watch all the IHC’s that come on eBay, one like this that didn’t look any better sold last week for over 13,000…… In my day they were as Howard said, a tool shed out back. There must have been some pop TV rebuilder that did one? Most of these were designed for city use, had small engines and toped out at 40mph. If I was going to put a lot of money into a build like this, I would look for an old Railway Express truck or something like that. They are a more substantial vehicle.

There seems to be a rash of these coming on the market right now, probably encouraged by the one that sold for so much money. I remember rows of these parked in the back of junk yards full of sorted car parts like tear ends and transmissions.

Hi Dave, I’ve noticed that too. Perhaps it’s because all these yards are closing, and someone finally walked around the truck and said, “hey, I bet we could sell this thing, clean it out, boys”.
