Blue Flame Beauty! 1946 Chevrolet Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you’ve been looking for a nice post-war pickup that you don’t have to be afraid to drive, this one might be perfect for you. This 1946 Chevrolet was restored before the current owner purchased it, so it’s a little hard to tell how old the restoration is. The current owner has done quite a bit of work to the drive train and this truck is ready for some cruising. It can be found here on eBay with an asking price of $34,600. Currently located in Okatie, South Carolina, the truck has been in that area for quite a while and was kept at a mountain vacation farm and driven infrequently. Take a look at this nice old truck and let us know your thoughts.

The interior looks comfortable enough. The bench seat is in good shape and the rest of it looks tidy. I’m guessing the gauges were restored or replaced when the restoration was done. You can also see the air conditioning unit below the dash, which makes a great addition to these old trucks! The one-piece windshield is a great modification too.

The seller has quite a bit of information in the ad regarding the drive train and various changes that have been made over the years. The current power plant is a “Blue Flame” straight-six that is mated to a Muncie 4-speed transmission with Hurst linkage. The ad states that it looks like it is from 1952 or ’54. The truck also features a cross-over pipe and dual exhaust and probably sounds great.

With the restoration being older, there are some dings and scratches on the truck. However, from 20 or 30 feet, this truck is a winner. There would be no shame in cruising and showing this truck. You could also do another restoration on it and take it to the next level. What would you do?

Air Conditioning? This is the greatest ’46 pickup ever.

“With that classic one year only ’46 Chevy Waterfall Grille she is a knock-out.”

Has this guy ever seen a ‘41 or first-series ‘47 Chevy truck?

Ken, you are right on the ’41 grill. I stand corrected. Thanks for the comment.

Just because the site is named “Barn Finds” doesn’t mean that the vehicles presented here have to be junk. After all, lot’s of cars/trucks etc. have been found to be in excellent condition after a good wash and polish even if they have been found in a barn after many years. Enjoy the site for what it is as I, and many others do.

Very good looking truck, looks to be a buy and drive IMO. It’s a little pricey IMO but it is what it is.

No question, very nice, however ( here it comes) I’m always bummed out when I see the price. The up side, for us, is nobody is going for it either. Is this truck really that valuable? I can see wanting the most money for your vehicle, but this is too much for what it is. Sure looks cool, tho.

How much would a new truck of equivalent size/load capacity/engine power cost in today’s American market Howard? Nice truck though. I had great times as a passenger in one much the same back in the fifties, although it was badged as a GMC.

That pick up you cant use, for what it was build for.. try load a engine, or something not wrapt in silk in that bed.. overrestored, , more than when it was new..

Red with black fenders? Original colors? Guess so, I have seen one in Maine, and one with the longer bed in southern NH, the Maine one was restored, at least to look good enough and to drive, for a movie, has sat kind of neglected outside a lobster pound in Bernard Maine for a few years since then.
But for someone with a big garden/lot, or a small farm, would be useful to go to the feed store, and the lumber yard, and to haul manure, and hay, and get groceries, as long as no interstate level highway was involved. Wish I needed it, and could afford it.

Just musing a bit.. that could be my old ’46. I sold it to a young fellow in SC, in unrestored nearly perfect condition with the exception of the motor. I threw the #5 piston driving it home right after buying it. The truck only had 41K miles, and was a military buyback.

Richard, post your Vin and I’ll verify. Mileage now reads 69k+ so just maybe she was really yours. And the #5 piston may explain the present engine and head number combo.

One of my favorite designs overall. The 235 engine is a good substitute for the old Babbit-Pounder. Of course I never would’ve gone to that but I’ve seen a lot of them converted and are quite happy. I’m not fussy about hanging an A/C under the dash in a truck that is already lacking in interior space but that’s just my humble opinion. Overall this truck is a winner and I sure wouldn’t kick it off my driveway. If it was within my budget I might be tempted to go after it…

@JBP. What does my not being a paying member have to do with anything? That doesn’t mean that I am not allowed to comment. I have been watching BF for a couple of years now and have also noted that a lot of the vehicles on offer range from needing a full restoration (junk) to virtual concours jobs.

Ofcourse you are aloud to comment, but every F…… time i comment on something, you are inn over.. Can i ask why? if you are such a good asset for The site, and like the new consept so much, why dont you so sopport it with silly $10 pr month? are you too stingy, or cant you affort it? what Barnfind has become the last years you can find many plases on the net, eks. Bring a trailer. but barn finds, and project cars, is more rare.. if they want to destroy that consept, so let them.. So they can live of guys like you, course im out.. Barn finds, and projects, i can get for free, on FB..

It’s one of the best grills ever!! Trucks from this era had so much style and class without having the gadgets of the trucks of today!! I wouldn’t change a thing on this truck!! That’s rare for me cause I mess with everything I get!!
