Blue Plate Special: 1979 Chevrolet Camaro

I bet this bright red Camaro looked good on the dealer lot in 1979. Today, the paint is worn through but it looks to be a survivor of 40 years of fun. The car is a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro with 138,000 miles on the odometer. It is located in Jamestown, California and can be seen here on eBay currently bid to $6,100.

The seller states it is powered by a 5.7 liter 350 cubic inch V8 engine and automatic transmission. The engine produced 170 horsepower and 265 foot pounds of torque back in the day. With a curb weight of 3,310 pounds, the 1979 Camaro was no barn burner. The car does not have air conditioning and was found at an Estate Sale in the area. The gauges and accessories are said to work but the heater switch sticks. The paint is said to be original but is wearing thin on the rear of the car. Based on the pictures some of the body panels look at different color red so it may have had some body work at one point.

The black interior looks pretty good and I can’t see any cracks in the dash. There are aftermarket gauges in the console and these seats came with the base interior. The car has manual windows and locks. The car has 14×6 painted rally wheels and 12 year old Dunlop tires. The seller says that the car is rust free and solid.

There were over 280,000 Camaros produced in 1979. This car is one that is survived and while it needs some love, it would be a great driver. My first real car was a 1973 Camaro with a 3 speed manual transmission. How many of you drove 2nd gen Camaros in high school?

Sport Coupes with the 350 are somewhat rare. Less than 40,000 non-Z28s were equipped with the 350 in 1979, and a healthy chunk of those were probably in the more upscale Berlinetta and RS models. So you’ll want to make sure that there’s an L instead of a G in the fifth digit of the VIN.

An exact twin to my 79 Camaro. Well except mine had a 250 six banger and 3spd. Lol. Was still a fun car that I really enjoyed.

I had a second-gen Camaro in high school, but in my case it was a 1971 with a 307, an automatic, and 186,000 miles on the clock. My dad had bought it new and it was his daily driver for 20 years before passing it on to me—of course, that was the EXACT moment 20 years of reliability decided to go on a permanent vacation…

Identical to my 1st Camaro, also a red ’79. Sadly mine was saddled with the 305ci and a 2bbl. Father bought it for me from my uncle in 1985 and it was my 2nd car. Ended up turning it into a full blown dragster within 2yrs. Complete with 6-71 B&M blower atop a 427 big block. Slicks, tubes, narrowed 9in rear, the works. Got my tail kicked regularly racing it with the 305 in it. Not so much near the end of my run with it though. Nothing really original about, just one of thousands of Camaro’s that received the same treatment. Do miss it and always will have a place in my heart for it because of the work my Father and I shared together. Didn’t have a clue at the time, but he would be dead at the end of those 2yrs.

I had this same looking Camaro except it had a 3.8 liter v6 with an automatic, it’s was a beautiful car both inside and out I think it might have been like an 81? It was one of the nicest driving cars I ever owned. It wasn’t fast by any means but I sure did like that car!!

Is this car still for sale, and if so how much are you looking for it?
