Boss in Red: 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

A real-deal Boss 302 is always going to turn heads, but one finished in Medium Red with black accents and a Shaker hood? That’s the stuff of dreams. This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is listed for sale here on eBay by a private seller and appears to be a highly detailed example with period-correct touches, fresh cosmetics, and just 52,000 miles on the odometer. For Mustang fans looking for the sweet spot between classic muscle and race-bred pedigree, this car checks a lot of boxes.

Under the hood is Ford’s high-revving 302 cubic inch V8, mated to a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and backed by a 4.30:1 locking differential—making this car feel like it’s just itching to be run through the gears. These were serious machines in their day, built for Trans-Am homologation, and they still offer a driving experience that’s hard to match. The engine bay appears tidy and true to spec, and the optional Shaker hood only adds to the car’s appeal, both visually and functionally.

Finished in factory-correct Medium Red (code 2008-A) with black “hockey stick” stripes, matte black hood and spoiler elements, and factory rear window louvers, this Mustang has all the right cues. The body was recently reconditioned, and while there’s a minor repair noted on the vinyl stripe near the “302” callout on the driver’s side, it doesn’t detract from the overall presentation. Factory 15-inch wheels wear full-length Goodyear Polyglas GT tires and polished trim rings, completing the vintage performance look.

Inside, the car sports a black Rhino/Corinthian vinyl interior that stays true to the Boss 302’s roots—simple, driver-focused, and all business. The seller doesn’t mention specific upgrades or modifications inside, which may mean the cockpit is as Ford intended. Given the car’s overall presentation and clean title, it’s likely been well cared for or recently restored to a very high standard.

Whether it’s destined for weekend shows, occasional track days, or just to be tucked into a well-curated garage, this Boss 302 looks like a sharp example of one of Ford’s best. Would you put miles on this one or save it as a collector piece?

Good eye, Elizabeth. Though primarily MoPar fans this would find a good home in our garage.

Kudos to the sellers honesty, forthcoming of the repair done to the sheet metal.

A real gearhead would buy this to drive as it was meant to be driven-on a fast twisty track.

IMO it’s a scam listing, stealing photos from here,

Beautiful looking Boss 302. It would look great next to our 1970 Dodge Challenger RT which is Rallye Red. Even the paint marks look great. I would not be surprised the reserve price is $50,000. I seen these go much higher. I can’t see anything wrong with this Boss..Good luck to the seller. 🐻🇺🇸

Not a fan of the ad, which seems to be written by someone or something unfamiliar with cars. It never refers to whether the engine is matching numbers, NOM or just a 302 with Cleveland parts bolted on top. There is no MARTI report or mention of one. If the car came factory with 4.30 gears, that would make it Drag Pack equipped, thus more valuable. Any serious potential buyer needs to speak with the seller directly then have an in person inspection performed.

If it’s legitimate, the seller should hold out for well over $50,000.

Beautifully done. Wow!!! Close ratio 4 speed and 430 Posi rear??? If you can get it to hook up just right I’d wager it would walk away from many a surprised folks from a red light.
( I couldn’t wait for Stan any longer to comment on the rear gears. Sorry Stan I stepped in lol)

Alot of profile pics have disappeared, at least on my end Driveinstile… and thumbs up 👍 is spotty too… Anyways..You’re right about that steep gear. Hang on out of the hole, and when you blast the 1-2 shift 😎 🏁

    Stunning restoration!

No highway with those deep 4.30 gears but glad to see the engine oil cooler that pairs with that gearset. Good to see Rev limiter – you’ll need it!
My brother had a “revised” ’70 in 1978 and it was a little tired but ran beautifully. His had the 3.50 gears in his, and curiously many engine parts were numbered just an “x”.

This is a real factory tight Boss. I would drive it – carefully.

These are seriously cool cars. This example looks great. For me the trim rings/ hub caps look good too (but maybe not as good as the Magnum 500’s). The ad sounds mostly AI to me.

It’s a scam and the admin keeps deleting my comments. I suspect they may be complicit in this deception.

The boss in question was sold on BaTin 2019 and these eBay photos have been lifted from that listing. The current owner and the previous owner (SteveG) have confirmed on the boss site that this car is not for sale and this is a fraudulent listing.

I’m a bit confused on this one as it should be sitting at double the price and would still be a bargain. Is it a “tribute” car that is only obvious to those who know what to look for? Why isn’t there a Marti and additional information?
A stunning car, beautifully presented and a great color. I don’t think the bottom has dropped this far on the Boss market and even a tribute this well done would sell for more. It is better than new.

It’s a scam. Current and previous owners both say say so on boss forum. Photos lifted from a BA T auction in 2019

Am I missing something, or is the VIN not listed anywhere in the ad. No VIN and no Marti means bid with extreme caution.

Confirmed SCAM ad, eBay link must have been removed from this site, a wise decision.

Had a chance to buy a nice one for 12 hundred bucks when I bought my 1970 Javelin SST for the same price. That Boss was white with blue stripes and I’ve wondered about that choice often because the application of this car took off after that and is significantly worth more today. But my Javelin is no slouch .

Well to bad, this is one of four I’d consider. Boss 302, 70 Camaro Z/28, AAR Cuda or a TA Challenger. Back in the day I was driving a 340 duster in real street racing these were the ones that gave me most of the trouble. High winding small blocks with steep gears. Stop light to stop light these cars were hard to beat.
