Buy 3 Alfa Engines for $750, Get An Alfetta GT!

alfa

What a find by Olaf E! Located in Bozeman, Montana, the advertisement here on craigslist reads “buy three Alfa twin cam engines, get an Alfetta GT free!” And for $750 to boot! These would be coming home if I were there, that’s for sure. I really like the little Alfa coupes–a lot. I just wonder why they have so many spare engines.

Speaking of the engines, here’s one of them. The one that appears to be in the Alfetta has twin sidedraft webers on it as well, which if they are in good shape are worth close to the price of the entire package. The piles of parts that are included are impressive as well, and there’s a cool looking header to match the Webers on the Alfetta. Me, I wouldn’t be thinking twice if I were anywhere close. How about you?

These cars rust like no other, however, Montana is a fairly dry state and the strut tower /inner fenders look really clean in the pictures. $750 is basically like “free” in my book and I’d be up there now buying it if not for my truck needing a new clutch so I can’t haul a trailer. Looks like he liked to drive his alfa hard and fast – been through a few motors. The carbs and headers are worth more than the asking price and if the car is indeed rust free that in itself is worth the trip up there.

Guessing the ad should read “I’ve blown three motors, come bail me out” but I agree screaming deal even if it is rusty

A great deal assuming the body is good and providing you don’t have to have the later GTV6 with the sweet V6 engine. All those 4-cylinder parts are good to have if you can use them, but I think the demand for them is limited because most people who want an affordable Alfa coupe tend to go after a GTV6, which can be had at very affordable prices even when you find them with little or no rust. You can find GTV6s on CL and Ebay often at $3-4K for a decent running car with minimal rust, to $5-8K for a very good to very good car.

This is a smoking deal. The demand for Alfetta GT is firming up with prices matching the later models. I personally prefer the Nord powered 116 coupes to the GTV6. Lighter weight upfront means better handling. Sure, the V6 Busso motor is sweet and will leave the 4cyl in the dust on a straightway but in the twisties the 4 banger will give it the run for the money. I also enjoy the simplicity of the early GT as well. Again, this is a pure giveaway. Wish I had the space and the means to drag this home.

Dang, It would probably cost me twice the asking price just to go get it. Nice to see something like this rather than another overpriced porsche
