California Farm Find: 1969 Jaguar E-Type Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Jaguar E-Type will likely never go out of style – it’s just too damn beautiful. So even when found as a dusty barn find after languishing on a California farm for decades, it’s not surprising for a car like this to still look absolutely ravishing. This 1969 E-Type convertible is equipped with the preferred manual gearbox and wears one of the best color combos there is of a light primrose yellow over a dark tan leather interior. Unlike most barn finds, this one has also had some money already spent on it to bring it to running, driving condition. Find it here on craigslist in Phoenix for $68,500.

The interior is truly a shock, considering it looks like the Jaguar was stored with the top down (or missing entirely). The leather seats still look supple, and the carpets – from here, at least – reveal no major flaws or stains. The wood-rimmed steering wheel is a Jaguar staple and although this later model loses the cool toggle switches inside that resemble those of a jetliner, there’s no denying this is a lovely place to spend time. The seller notes that he has cleaned out the gas tank / fuel system, rebuilt the carburetors, and also rebuilt all of the calipers in order to prep it for roadgoing use.

The mileage of just under 67,000 is believed to be accurate, and the Jaguar will come with its original bill of sale and paid receipt from when the previous owner took it home. We don’t have confirmation of this, but it sounds like the farm it was found on belonged to the original owner – but you’ll have to ask the seller for that verification. The seller claims there’s zero evidence of accidents on this E-Type, and that better pictures are coming soon of the convertible cat all cleaned up – which will hopefully help to justify the asking price.

Waiting to see more photos, the under bonnet and under body condition will determine the true condition. Black interior would have been best look IMHO.

That steering wheel is not original.

I’ve never seen a dash pad in a color other than black. This one looks tan … and strange.

      Right on both counts.

All the six cylinder open two seater E Types and coupes came with a manual gearbox. Only the 2+2s came with an optional slushbox.
The Series Ones had six toggle switches in the mid-dash section. Personally I prefer them slightly to the rocker switches, on a one-on-one basis. However, what Series One supremacists never mention is that the Series Two has TEN rocker switches, which on balance some people feel are cooler…especially since in the Series Two there are FIVE gauges above them, as opposed to the four above the six toggle switches of the Series One. On a small final note, it is JET planes that have rocker switches. The toggle switches were found on earlier, Second World War fighter aircraft.

Less pictures means less info . I agree the interior colors sucks , I don’t know how anyone likes this puke color tan and pays dearly for it . Probably a nice project that seems legit so far , but some changes have been made per other BF fans .

Here’s a knife in the gut turner. I’ve mentioned before, my ultimate remorse story, when I bought my ’71 MGB in ’73. The dealer, that specialized in sports cars, had this car next to the MG. The MG was almost new, with hard top for $1995, and the Jag, 2 years older, they wanted $2895. The most my bank would go was $2g’s, and try as might, I couldn’t raise the $900 bucks, a lot of money in ’73. I think, it was more like, the bank dude didn’t want some punk kid driving a nicer car than he had. I bought the MG, and never regretted it, but always wondered if I had gotten the Jag. Obviously, to spend this kind of money on a Jaguar that was sitting,,,well, good luck with all that.
