For the record, the seller of this 1979 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds W-30 knows that the tires are low. He purposely keeps them low to ward off thieves. A restoration on these cars can be challenging due to finding parts but this one doesn’t appear to need much in that regard. It’s listed here on eBay in Zachary, Louisiana and there is a single bid of $11,000 and no reserve.
The Hurst/Olds from this era was built by Oldsmobile rather than Hurst and the W-30 option added a couple of grand to the price of a Cutlass Calais Coupe, money well spent then and now. The seller isn’t messing around with offers and dickering and all of that nonsense, take it or leave it. They’ll keep it if they don’t get what they want out of it – although with the reserve being met, I’m assuming that it’ll be sold at the end of the auction.
I really like the 1979 Hurst/Olds models with the flat grille and single headlights as opposed to the one that our own Adam Clarke recently showed us here on Barn Finds. As with pool or pond, anything would be good. I wouldn’t turn down any year of this model. You can see some paint issues on the back portion of this car in the photo above, but they say that the t-top is leak-free which is good news.
These cars came in two color combinations, the black and gold as seen here and a white and gold version. The white and gold cars got tan or white vinyl or tan velour, and the black cars received either black or tan vinyl or black or tan velour. You can see the tan velour here and other than needing a good general cleaning inside, it looks pretty tidy. Speaking of tidy, the seller provides an underside photo showing what appears to be a newer gas tank.
The engine is an Olds Rocket 350 cubic-inch V8 which would have had 170 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller says that this one runs and drives, but it needs a carb, brake booster, and some paintwork. Any thoughts on this Hurst/Olds? Good buy or goodbye?
Such a 😎 looking car. Great lines.
You would have luved the ’80’s then. lol
No his/her shifter or is it just his? Or just hers? Or theirs now?
These cars came with a HURST dual gate shifter… I have one in white with the tee tops
Decklid is rusted through at bottom edge. Windshield pillars look suspect. I would want to see more pics of the underside of the car and why was the gas tank replaced ?
This is Louisiana after all and too many cars get flooded down there.
🎻 🎶 🎵 ” Mary took to running with a travellin’ man, left mama cryin with her head in her hands, such a sad case, so broken hearted, she said momma gotta go gotta get outta here, gotta get out of town, tired hanging around , i got to roll on between the ditches….
just an ordinary story about the way things go round and around nobody knows but the hwy rolls on forever, that old hwy rolls on forever…… 🎶 🎸
There’s no brake fluid in the reservoir…oy very!
Apparently also to discourage theft. ;-)
Do thieves check under the hood ? lol
A telephone pole could stop it though.
I believe that’s a seat cover we’re seeing. The original velour was embossed in a square pattern.
There’s a lot of work needed on this car, much of what doesn’t meet the eye here. The rust bubbles would concern me the most.
The seller could ward off thieves as well by taking the wheels off and setting the car up on concrete blocks.
The rust you can see is bad enough, but the metric chassis GM cars were well known for severe frame rot , from the top of rear wheel arch back to the bumpers . Many seemingly good condition cars ended up in the junkyard because of that.
Only saving grace of this Gutless is the Hurst shifter. What with the HP.
Probably took forever to get to 100 mph.
Add in the color scheme and it’s a Goodbye !
SOLD for $12,100.
Thanks, PRA4SNW!
Nothing like my 1971 Olds 442 W30. This might be worth $4,000.00
