Cartier Edition: 1978 Lincoln Mark V

1978 Lincoln Mark V

Cartier is normally associated with watches and jewelry, but Lincoln convinced the company to let them stick the name on a few cars too. That may make this Mark V more interesting, but I doubt it is the main reason people are bidding on it here on eBay. This car is claimed be original with only 90k miles on the clock. It is well-optioned and the seller even states that they wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere.

Cartier Interior

One of my buddies’ dad used to drive one of these back in the nineties and I thought it was a strange vehicle choice at the time. That was until I rode in it though. These were high quality machines with plenty of passing power and a suspension that made you feeling like you were floating on a pillow of air.

460 V8

He loved them so much that he found another one and handed the old one down to his son. I still remember racing him once. I was in my hot rodded 1950 Chevy and although I eventually won the race, he gave me a serious run for my money with that big 460!

What Else Is In There

Little did we know that the time would quickly come when it would be near impossible to find clean examples of these luxury cruisers at affordable prices. They are not without faults, but I’ve grown to really appreciate these old Lincolns and it will be interesting to see what this one ultimately goes for.

Ford built an amazing number of these vehicles in the late 70s. I’ve used the rear discs twice on 9″ rear ends in my Bronco. The hydroboosts are also popular with pickers.

I’m more interested in the 73/74 Hurst Olds parked next to it!

I had a child hood friend who’s dad had a Giventchy (spelled right?) Anyway, we both got our license at about the same time. What kind of “pimpin” fun we had.

I can attest to the quality of these cars. My 79 Cartier Mark V (with leather) has only 79k miles and runs /drives like a dream. The 78 + 79 share the same color scheme though the 79 has a landau molding with coach lamps, a new electronic tuning 8-track player, and the 400cid only.
