Castle Find: 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS

This 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale is claimed to have been recently unearthed from a castle basement in France. It is in rough condition, but these rare beauties do not come along everyday. Especially ones found in castles. It is currently in Paris, France and is listed for sale here on eBay with bidding starting at $200.

The top end of the original 1300cc twin-cam engine is long gone. Looks like the five speed transmission is still hooked though. The seller claims that the car had been sitting in a castle for many years, but that people were able to gain access to it through a secret tunnel. The car was vandalized and many parts were stripped off, but luckily the hole wasn’t large enough to drag the whole car out. The story sounds fishy, but you never know. We know of at least one other castle in France which full of rare classics. Perhaps this one belonged to Michel Dovaz?

Inside the guages and much of the switchgear has been removed too. We would love to get a hold of the thieves, but then again, it looks like the previous owner may not have cared much for the car either. There is some body damage to the nose and it has experienced a very badly done color-change. There is some rust, but overall it does look solid for an Alfa.

The design was penned by Bertone and was obviously influenced by the famous B.A.T. cars. These were built to race and to do it in style. Values for good cars have skyrocketed as of late so it may just be possible to come out ahead on this one. Either way, this one needs to be saved. It will not be easy though and the task should only be taken on by a true Alfista with extensive knowledge and very deep pockets. Just think how people will react when you tell them that this is not just a barn find, but a real castle find…

looks like it might have been stolen and hid in the castle to strip the parts off.
