Chicken Tax Casualty: 1965 VW Double Cab

1965 VW Double Cab

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you know your VW Transporters, then you know that a VW double cab pickup is a rare machine – at least around here. Apparently, a “chicken tax” in 1964 hurt importation numbers of light trucks from Europe and the VW pickup was one of the casualties. First generation Transporters are desirable in any configuration, so this one seems even more so considering its rarity. This is going to be a big project though. There’s rust and the engines gone, but it does look like a good start if you are really into these. This one is located in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada and is listed here on The Samba for $$10,900 or best offer.

Cool.. though it looks like it’s parked by the Marina, and we all know how good that is for a vehicle.

If this really was a condition 4, as stated by the seller, then maybe at that price. It’s a 5 on the Samba scale. It does not run and needs A LOT. $5-6k max.

I am from Naniamo, and the Volkswagen dealership did a booming business, since I am a kid from the 60’s, I remember seeing a green one just llike this one. around for years. If you ever see a red with a white top karmen ghia, with a red interior, in Naniamo, it is probally the first car I learned to drive on. ( Nanaimo is not that big) lol. This is post took me back. Crap I must be getting old!
