Clean Cruiser: 1991 Ford Crown Victoria Survivor

There is nothing I love more than a beautiful classic car that has been lovingly restored, modified, or has survived the test of time. I am more than partial to ’60s and ’70s American muscle cars, and always will be. That being said, car shows are inundated with these things of beauty, so it can be refreshing to see something as lovely as this relatively mundane 1991 Ford Crown Victoria in such immaculate condition. Although this isn’t a particularly valuable car, even in this condition, I think to base a car’s merit on its value is to misunderstand the car hobby as a whole. To someone, this car is worth nothing because it is not their cup of tea. To someone else, this car may be worth several thousand dollars because it is exactly the way it has always been, and remind them of being a kid in the 1990s. To yet another someone, this car is valuable because it is old (remember, 1991 was 26 years ago!) and in excellent condition. Classic cars aren’t as affordable as they once were, and in order for younger enthusiasts to join the hobby many of them must settle for a more unconventional classic such as this immaculate 1991 Crown Vic. Find it here on eBay in Maryland with a starting bid of $3,100 and no reserve.

This Crown Victoria has reportedly covered only 44,000 miles in its 26 years on the road. To me, this says this car was well-loved, well-cared for, and driven sparingly. The paint is in incredible condition for its age, and although it has almost certainly been professionally detailed, the fact that it cleans up that well is impressive in its own right. The interior is in near-mint condition, with the only defect being some fading on the steering wheel. The seats are all in good condition, the dash is nearly perfect, and the seller states that everything works except for the A/C doesn’t blow cold. This car looks to have many options, and could be a great weekend cruiser for someone. I do not doubt the claim of mileage, simply because when did you ever hear of anyone restoring a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria?

The condition of the engine bay suggests to me that this car saw regular use, but likely did not stray far from home. This is a one-owner, garage-kept car that looks to have been kept in good running order. The last year of a long-run, this Crown Victoria is equipped with a Ford 5.0 liter (302) The seller states that this car runs and drives great, and is ready to drive anywhere.

There is no denying that this is a beautiful car, and although it may not be for you, it is almost certainly for someone. The superior condition, the interior/exterior color combination, and the low-mileage are all things that are a rarity in a vehicle like this. While Crown Victorias of this era are somewhat common, Crown Victorias this nice are not. When was the last time you saw one this nice? I’m not sure I ever have seen one this nice! Whoever ends up buying this car will have a nice car, and a cool conversation piece.

I vividly recall my Dad and me taking turns behind the wheel of his similar ’90 LX as we drove it home, brand-new, off the showroom floor.

Dad’s had a Traction-Lok limited-slip, turbine wheels, and a rear sway bar. It was surprisingly fun to drive. We both loved driving it.

Sadly, the scarlet interiors on the entire ’79-’91 run of this body style were really prone to sun fade, and this example hasn’t survived unscathed. If it were Dove Grey or Nutmeg inside, it’d still be like new.

Boy that sure is a nice car and I’m not much of a Ford guy except for Ford trucks and vans for work. I would drive that car and feel proud behind the wheel..

I had a blue one a few years back. It was blue on blue. I put over 130k on that car, and it looked nearly as good as this one when I traded it. The seats in these wore quite well. This was definitely a well cared for car, but I am not convinced on the mileage. Still could be 144k. I’d want to see some documentation.

Not as many as you’d think are left. According to Polk, there are 8,539 ’91 Crown Victorias still on the road.

You know you’re getting old when the classic car sites start featuring cars from 1991. Who’s with me…I am calling for a ban on anything newer than 1980, and frankly that’s five years too new. Guys?

Not with you..I WILL however propose a ban on any future Chevette listings..LOL

@Rex, I had the very same reaction when I saw this listing. Then I did the math and could only shake my head when I realized it’s 26 years old.

I had a black one with the same interior 1989 Model. It was a nice car and got great mileage for the size. We traded it in on a newer car a 2005 Mazda 6 to get better mileage. When I took it to Carmax it had 155K on it and this was in 1997. They gave me a value of $1800 I had only paid $500 for it. I then asked them if they realized it was 155K not 55K and they lowered the offer to $800. I probably should have kept it. It was a great riding car. I was in my 30’s though and it was an old man’s car. Now I’d love to have it back.

……and then we are left wondering if “Honesty (REALLY) is the Best Policy”, just like what we were taught from our parents? Seems like nowadays you are treated as a FOOL if your honest & decent! Maybe it’s just the way of the world now but we both know that when we get home & go to bed we’re doing so with a clear conscience & its priceless!

Bought one from a friend’s Mom with about this much mileage and similar condition. Served us well as a family car, then the first car for a succession of teenagers. Still see it around town…

Rex Khars- Not with you at all, obviously this site is not intended to give exposure to four year old Honda civics or Chevy Cruze_ but interest by readers in cars of years gone by ..be it 20 ,25, 30,40,50 years is what the site should and tries to cover.
I was most pleased to see this 91 Ford featured.. Why, I have an affinity for Fords in the first place.. Second, it is so very close to what has been my long distance car for a decade or more. Mine is a ’88 Mercury blue Grand Marquis, in generally the same condition as the car featured, currently has just under
200,000 miles. it reliable and trouble free, and most comfortable, and has relatively modest fuel consumption- 22-24 mpg ( US gal) , what’s not to love.

Well said! As I stated in the article,1991 may seem recent but it was quite some time ago. Beautiful Grand Marquis you have there, but then again I am always partial to blue cars! Glad you liked the write-up.

Greetings Kris- on Aug 04, 2017- New Brunswick is the place to be.
Sunny, warm, relatively quiet, minimal political strife, and in spite of Al Gore’s ranting, the Bay of Fundy has not yet engulfed and flooded out New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. I’ve got a greater concern for the bees… Haven’t been stung once yet, this year.. Must be loosing my appeal.

Andrew Tanner- thank you for your kind words.

I had five 80s Crown Vics. They were all reliable and comfortable highway cruisers. All were bought used, the last one with 109,000 miles on it when I bought it. It went close to 300,000 before it died. Had to put a new timing chain on it at 250,000.

A problem I had is that the doors have a flat rubber seal that dries out and then the doors leak. You can’t get them from Ford, so if they aren’t repo-ed by now you have a sunny day cruiser.

I owned a ’91 Mercury Grand Marquis I purchased in 2010. It was a great road car that never let me down. I’d love to have another one.

I just took possession of a Merc Grand Marquis LS with 8,023 miles, very similar to this beautiful CV. A wonderful driving highway cruiser !

I personally love these cars. I have had several. My daily driver is an 89 Lincoln Towncar, unfortunately not as nice as the 91 Crown Vic here but close to mechanically perfect for my needs. I love the body on frame ride quality and not too bad on fuel as was stated by others.

I wouldn’t touch it ( not a Frod bloke) but this deserves to be looked after.
    Don’t alter it at all.

have had a few of these “full figured” gals and love them! bulletproof, decent mileage and comfy to no end. If I had garage space I would be making a run at this beauty!

Funny that you would call yours a full-figured gal. My nickname for mine was “The Big Girl.”

A worthy feature… I recently sold my ’98 but have always admired the “box” Panthers, as we had a couple in my family over the years. I’d be tempted to ditch the vinyl top, but otherwise this car is perfect.
