This 1980 Chevrolet Corvette left the factory painted in Code 52 Yellow. Of the 40,614 Corvettes produced in 1980, only 2,077 were Code 52 yellow. It is a striking color but upon closer inspection that is about the only thing exciting about this car, unless you are looking for a project. This Corvette is located in Las Vegas, Nevada and can be seen here on eBay. It is said to have been under the same family ownership since 1980. Bidding is currently at $4,000 with a couple of days left and no reserve!
This Corvette came with the base L-48 350 cubic inch V8 engine which developed 190 horsepower. The optional engine for 1980 was the L-82 350 cubic inch V8 engine which developed 230 horsepower. The odometer shows 74,000 miles but these are probably hard miles as the engine looks tired and some of the less durable components are missing. The car seems well optioned with air conditioning and all the power accessories. The seller states that the car runs and drives pretty good. That sounds like the AT&T commercial that says “Just OK is not OK!”
The interior needs a ton of work including new seat covers, door panels, carpet, seat belts and steering wheel. The blinker on the steering column looks wonky, too. Black is a nice accent to the t-tops and yellow paint but this car is going to need new weatherstrip and almost all the soft pieces replaced. I guess the Nevada summer sun has really taken its toll on this car. When it comes to the exterior, the paint looks acceptable but there is a crack in the fiberglass on the driver side fender. The gaps on the driver door don’t look encouraging either. The radio antenna also looks to have been replaced at some point.
The aluminum wheels and tires look good and I think the 1980 Corvette is one of the cleanest designs of all the C3 family. So what is your take on this Corvette? Is it worth $4,000? Would you drive this little yellow Corvette home or trailer it?
That weatherstrip and T-Top gasketing is LOADS of fun to replace.
How could the original paint be so good & the weatherstripping(& window moldings) be so bad?
I heard these later C3s are lighter in weight due to aluminum components.
Wonder if Chevy considered an aluminum birdcage, & if the ’83 & up vettes have aluminum birdcages.
there were no 83 corvette’s ‘ you might have a early c4 that might say in the door jamb 10th month of 1983 but they were all 1984’s and they were all cold rolled steel . the only c4 to have aluminum chassis were the ZR1 in the C4 family of cars , and they were build at a tottaly diffrent assembly plant.
Rode Hard and put away Wet.
Surprised the Count has not grabbed this already ?
There’s door gaps, and then there’s door GAPS.
There’s a reason Prince didn’t sing about a little yellow Corvette.
