You look at those enormous fins and those bullet tail-lights, and you just know that you can only be dealing with one car. The 1959 Cadillac is an icon, and its appearance took the styling trend that gave us fins and took to its ultimate expression. This particular Cadillac DeVille is referred to as a survivor car, and it does look to be in really impressive condition. Located in Sarasota, Florida, it is listed for sale here on eBay.
I referred to the condition of the Cadillac as impressive, and it is more so if the claim that it is wearing its original paint is true. The Beaumont Beige paint has a deep shine to it, and it is hard to find any real flaws. The fit and finish of the panels look to be straight and true, while the external trim and chrome also look to be in good condition.
There is a slight sag in the driver’s seat, but otherwise, the interior is just as impressive as the exterior of the Cadillac. Hidden somewhere in there is what I believe to be a Bluetooth stereo, but it has been nicely hidden. Of course, this aftermarket addition does mean that the car is not completely original, but it seems like the removal of that would rectify this for the purists. Cadillac always wants the owners of its vehicle to feel special, so on the DeVille, they really went for broke. Power windows, a six-way power seat, power locks, cruise control, air conditioning, Autronic Eye headlight dimmer, a power trunk, and E-Z Eye tinted glass are all part of the package that is guaranteed to make any trip a pleasure.
Under the hood, the owner gets a 390ci V8 engine, which produces 325hp. This power is then transmitted to the road via an automatic transmission, and the car also features power steering and power brakes. Cadillac was so determined to make the DeVille the best that it could be that they even redesigned the rear end in a bid to completely eliminate noise from that potential source. This car is a full numbers-matching car, and the owner says that it runs and drives really well.
The word “iconic” is a word that has become the victim of excessive use, and is right up there with the word “patina” when people deal with classic cars. However, if you are talking about cars from the era that gave us the fin, then the ’59 Cadillac deserves the iconic tag. This one is a really nice car, and if the claims or originality are true, then it is also quite special. The popularity of these is impossible to deny, and with popularity comes a price. Sale prices of $50,000 are quite common, while $100,000 isn’t unheard of. What makes this one interesting is the fact that it is being sold in a No Reserve auction. It probably isn’t surprising that this has brought the potential buyers out of the woodwork, with 15 people having submitted a total of 59 bids on the Cadillac. The price is currently sitting at $32,100, but I suspect that it might go quite a bit higher yet.
Yes Mr Clarke this American icon is going to get a lot of bids because IMHO this is the Cadillac of Cadillacs.I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some overseas bidders as well.I wouldn’t mind parking this sweetie in my driveway!
Sweet baby Jesus. Gorgeous car.
I will consider my life complete when I have the two final things to make it so. 1st is this 59 Coupe de Ville and 2nd is a garage large enough to park it in. I have a real preference for the styling of the 66 model year Caddy but this 59 floats my boat.
Beluga Beige…
My dream garage looks like a Cadillac museum with the biggest, and brightest stars from 1930s [V12, V16 Town Cars], on up thru the last of the great land yachts of 1976 …
If ever Powerball comes in for me … I’m gonna start hording all my favorite Cadillacs!!
A rolling work of art. At 225″ long, I might be able to squeeze it in my 1920’s garage if I park it with the front bumper touching the wall.
I feel the need to correct the writer on this `59. First AC is NOT standard on the DeVilles; this one has an aftermarket hang-on unit. Second, power locks were NOT standard fare either, but an option like the autronic eye headlamp dimmer. But otherwise, there’s no faulting this coupe; it shows nothing but 60 years of serious TLC. IMHO, this one’s worth at least $65K-$70K.
I just saw the guy driving this car this morning. It looks really nice.
gotta love them tail lights
Beautiful car with the one of the ugliest colors on the planet…
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I hate to be the one to disagree but this car was bizarrely ugly in ‘59 and it still is. However, after 60 years I can appreciate iit as the epitome of an era—and I like it.
Not sure eBay at no reserve would have been my choice of the best way to sell this Caddy….just sayin’.
@Tags. I agree with you. Richard Rawlins/Wayne Carini/Flat 12 Garage etc. seem to make quite heavy losses more often than not when they take cars to auction without having a reserve..
Very nice example. I’d have to get rid of the exhaust tips. Having them on this car is kind of like wearing a tuxedo and cowboy boots.
I love this, and fixing the sag in the drivers seat, even my limited skills can do that.
Don’t care for the color but the 59 is a car for the ages.
A plethora of protuberances-I love it!!
Last year I bought a 59 Cadillac. It is in near perfect condition, but it is a 4 door hardtop. Personally I like a 4 door for ease of entry and exit. We actually drive this car almost every day. Convertibles sell for $100K+, not normally hard tops. I paid $20K for mine. The only thing I had to do was rebuild the brakes because they sat too long. Buyer beware. This is a BEAUTIFUL car. Don’t pay too much if you plan to sell it. The market for 50’s cars is dropping. All that said, I wish I could bring this one home.
I like this one better… :-)

JC, that is a nice car, but it will be expensive to put it back to original. Those wheels and tires are nasty. It is a lot of work to get the tint off the windows, but can be done with steam and ammonia. Then you would need to remove the red artwork on the trunk lid. Once done, it would be nearly perfect.
I see your point Bob but I’d probably leave it as it is… I still have a little “Rebel without a cause” in my blood ;-)… Have a great day!
Now that’s a Caddy!
Always loved these!
