Cool Little Austin A40 Truck!

1953 Austin A40 Truck

Here is a 1953 Austin A40 that has been stored inside for almost 50 years.  The engine starts but some brake work needs to be done to make it a driver. The truck is listed here on craigslist in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The owner is asking $3,000. It appears the bed and the bench seat could use some repairs and the headlamps might be missing? There’s also a section of metal missing under the right headlamp. If everything happens to be with this truck, it seems like it would be a good little project!

The owner is moving and wishes to find a new home for the truck this month. I have seen these trucks in a single color like this beautiful restored example below:

But I think I would keep the two-tone paint combo. You can see what it looks like two-tone in green on the restored example below.

This little truck does need some work, but it appears it might not take much to have a fun little driver!

Cheers,
Robert

Wow! Great find. Where this truck on the East Coast, I would have some explaining to do with the wife. What a neat opportunity.

For the price of a good watch, a person could have a great winter restoration project! What a cool truck, and left-hand-drive, too! I love it.

Anyone know if there are any problems exporting/importing from Canada to the US? I’m half way accross the country from the truck in MN, but our border with Canada at Thunder Bay has always been friendly in the past. They often do not ask for passports.

Anyone know of reliable transporters? Would Canadian or American be better since the car is in Canada.

Hi John, from what I’ve heard, leaving the US is a breeze, coming back, not so much. Car transporters are pricey, especially, if your car is the only one in the area ( they give you a better rate, the more cars in the area they pick up, naturally) This thing can’t weigh much, rent a car trailer, and make a road trip out of it. Pretty nice up that way, and maybe cheaper overall. Has a title, so shouldn’t be a problem, as it would be pretty obvious to the US Border Patrol what you are doing.

      John,

It’s great you are considering picking up this truck. If you are able to and are willing would you please share some images and/or the story?

      Cheers,

      Robert

Importing vehicles over 25 years old and unmodified is little trouble. You would have to pay some duty on this one being foreign built.

Right now driving this little truck from BC to MN is a little difficult, I’m working in Italy currently. I’ll inquire about storage for a month. I’ll also look for haulers. Weather in the midwest can act up in November. Robert, if I can work something out with the seller, I would be happy to share.
