Cop-Spec: 1995 Chevrolet Caprice IA2 Police Wagon

There are many people out there who enjoy buying decommissioned police vehicles, due to the various changes they possess compared to their civilian counterparts, which often includes upgrades to the cooling system, charging system, and suspension. While a police wagon likely wouldn’t exist in today’s crossover crazy world, the 1990s were a different era, and the proof is this 1995 Chevrolet Caprice IA2 Police Wagon that is available here on eBay.

This Caprice is available in Bush, Louisiana with a clean title. The seller claims that they are a collector of the General Motors’ B-Body platform, but due to a shift in interest, they are selling off their fleet. Supposedly, the New York State Police used this example at weight checkpoints, and the current seller purchased it from the second owner. The seller also claims this is one of just 70 examples produced, but another source notes that GM produced 846 total IA2 wagons, with just 154 made for the 1995 model year.

The original exterior paint seems to be in excellent shape, but the seller washed the car right before taking the photos, which makes it harder to truly gauge its quality. Supposedly though, this is a rust-free example.

Inside the cabin, the blue theme continues, and somewhat surprisingly, the interior is very pristine. The seller also claims that the A/C is nice and cold, which is certainly a plus.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 5.7-liter V8 engine, which pairs to an automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels. The combination has 127,495 miles on it.

At the time of this article being written, bidding is at $3,552 with the reserve not met. Do you think this police Caprice is worth going after, or would you rather pay less for a more common longroof B-body?

This car is much more desirable than the upcoming 8000 mile Buick Roadmaster! 125000 miles isn’t a lot when you consider that the NYSP would’ve kept it maintained properly. Being a rare package this is a great choice IMO

Rarer than a 9c1 for sure but also rarer than a b4c

Educate me please, I had a ’95 9C1 Caprice, ex K9 car from Nampa Idaho, & no it didn’t stink, which was of course a 4 door sedan this wagon is a IA2 is that the difference , sedan vs. wagon ? mine had the cloth front bucket seats with a vinyl rear seat, this wagon appears to have a cloth rear seat. If you GOOGLE GM rpo codes (mind boggling) it lists IA2 as a public service vehicle but 9C1 as Police vehicle. Thank You.

I remember when this generation Chevy Caprice was on the market. I find this more attractive to look at than later Caprice.

Used to attend the Florida auctions where plenty of them got snapped up for a fairly reasonable price.

With the LT1, they made a great sleeper.

Former police wagon? Had the snot driven out of it. Not good for much, unless you like dumping cash into it. Had a former police car once… Never again.
