Creamy Cruiser: 1966 Ford Thunderbird

y1

Those of us in areas where rust is prevalent can only marvel at the largely non-rusty cars that appear in certain spots of the US. I can easily imagine a car like this one listed for the same price in other locales but with holes in the rocker panels! The 1966 Thunderbird was the last of the “boat-like” models, and some would argue the best of the bunch. It’s located in El Monte, California. We don’t know a lot about this one from the eBay listing, but with a buy-it-now of only $2,800, I’m not that worried. The 390 V-8 should provide plenty of punch (I wish there were underhood pictures), and I’d want to source some original wheel covers and fix the rear valence and vinyl roof. It’s hard to tell if the paintwork could be touched up or not; there are some pretty serious looking scrapes, but as a whole I think the color scheme works and I’m hoping that’s Ford Wimbledon White. Have you got a spot in your garage for this running and driving big bird?

Someone thought it was a good deal; at 3:00 PM PDT it’s already gone.

Love these T Birds, wish I could find one this nice and this cheap in my area. I’ve seen much worse in the 5 to 7000 range.

I was never a T-Bird fan, but enjoy a bargain like this one.. It’s value is in the eye of the beholder.. All the best to the new owner..

The T Birds on that era were awesome. Great performance, good handling, very comfortable, lots of creature comforts, great styling! Those things were personal luxury cars with performance comparable with some muscle cars of the day. The only negatives that I remember about these cars are electrical gremlins. Power windows, seat motors, power locks, AC controls, and just the wiring on those old Fords were a pain. The more options the car had, the more problems one could expect. Of course today the aftermarket has corrected most of the issues for these and other weak points on various cars over the years. Someone got a good deal!
