Daily Driver: 1987 Chevrolet C10 Silverado

Some classics hide their age better than others, as demonstrated by this 1987 Chevrolet V10 Silverado. It had a decent head start because it has been pampered and protected from the elements. However, a repaint and a range of new interior trim items ensure it presents superbly. It also features a range of options to improve the ownership experience, including a fuel-injected V8 under the hood. It would be ideal for an enthusiast seeking a Pickup that can turn heads and receive admiring comments.

Chevrolet’s Third Generation C/K range graced showroom floors from 1973 until 1991. However, the company changed the model designations in 1987 to differentiate the current model from its successor which joined the fray that year. Therefore, what had previously been known as the K10 became the V10 in 1987. This V10 is the range-topping Silverado, and its presentation is quite jaw-dropping. The seller claims it has not seen mud or other nasty substances since Day One, helping to explain why the underside is spotlessly clean and rust-free. It appears a previous owner treated the Pickup to a repaint in its original White years ago, and the lack of significant flaws and defects is evidence of its sheltered existence. The bed features a spray-on liner for protection, and the seller has replaced virtually every exterior bright trim piece, along with seals, rubbers, and the windshield. The remaining glass is excellent, and the factory 8″ Rally wheels give this truck a sense of purpose.

If this Silverado makes a positive impression courtesy of its exterior, the interior lifts things to a higher level. The seller replaced the seatcover, mats, handles, vents, air conditioning system, and many other components. It is probably unfair to describe it as perfect, but there aren’t any significant faults worth mentioning. The Red cloth and vinyl trim is spotless, while the dash and pad exhibit no evidence of UV damage. Along with ice-cold A/C, the winning bidder receives cruise control and an AM/FM radio/cassette player.

Powering this Silverado is the fuel-injected 350ci L05 V8. The small-block produces 210hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque, which feeds to the road via a four-speed 700R4 automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Other notable inclusions are power-assisted steering and brakes, factory dual shocks, and dual fuel tanks. The power and torque figures are impressive for the time and should allow the new owner to use the hitch receiver to great effect. The engine bay presents as impressively as the rest of the vehicle and doesn’t flatter to deceive. The Silverado runs and drives perfectly, and the faultless four-wheel drive system should allow the buyer to delve deep into the wilderness. However, considering this Pickup’s history, I question whether that will ever happen!

The seller listed this fantastic 1987 Chevrolet V10 Silverado here on eBay in Douglasville, Georgia. It has struck a chord with potential buyers because twenty-two bids have pushed the price to $10,099. I am not surprised that this falls below the reserve, and I suspect that figure could double in the coming days. What seems clear is that the new owner won’t need to spend a dime on this classic beyond the purchase price, because everything that can be done has. Would you consider dropping a bid or two? I wish you luck if you do.

Great truck. The lower half of the dash being white seems odd, but the interior looks great too. I’m not surprised the reserve is not met yet, I’d hold out for more too.

Lower part of the dash was always body color.

The Squarebodies give the impression it wasn’t meant to be so – GM had painted the interior sheetmetal of their trucks a neutral color that harmonized with the seat upholstery from the late 1930s up to about 1970 – but new manufacturing processes dictated it.

What a clean beauty. O/D autoloader is nice for cruising the hwy. Slap some Warn hubs up front and head for the backwoods. 🦌 🎣 🏕

      No, its a V10. 4WD were “K”‘s until 86, then in 87 they became “V”s and 2wd became “R”.

The square body trucks were reclassified from C/K to R/V for 1987. This was meant to distinguish them from the new GMT-400 series of C/K trucks. The GMT-400 was delayed until the 1988 MY but the nomenclature was in the books. Since there technically is no ’87 C/K truck one might go easy on the mix up.

Had a Blue/Gray ‘87 several years ago. This one has all the options mine had except power windows, which many times I wished I didn’t have. The tailgate trim panel on mine was more burnished. Never saw a shiny one like this before. Nice truck!

It is too nice to be used seriously and not really all that special. I’m glad that it is getting lots of attention because I appreciate GM squarebodies.

Currently at $21,800 reserve not met. Nice truck but….. I guess with the soaring prices of new trucks this will make these trucks more and more expensive.
