This is Part 3 of our series on brown Trans Ams. Recently, we have reviewed a 1979 Heritage Brown Trans Am and a 1978 Chesterfield Brown Trans Am. This is a 1977 Brentwood Brown Trans Am. Pontiac changed the hue of the brown each year but still designated them as Code 69. This example is located in Portland, Oregon and is being sold by a dealer. The car needs some work and is listed for $18.900 here on Craigslist. The car has just been listed for a couple of days and we appreciate Curvette sending us this listing.

The interior looks a little better than the exterior. The carpet and dash appear to be in good shape except for the missing radio. As can be seen, this is a 4 speed car with a Hurst pistol grip handle. The seats have been recovered or have after market seat covers over them. The seller states the car has 144k miles so since the odometer only goes to 5 digits, they must have knowledge that it only rolled over once. The car appears to be a low option car with no air conditioning, tilt steering, power windows or T-Tops. The console looks to have minor damage.

The Trans Am engine compartment is dusty and it looks like the car was pulled out of a field but hopefully a barn. In 1977, the standard Trans Am engine was the L78 400 V8 with 180 horsepower, while the W72 400 V8 offered 200 horsepower, chrome valve covers, and 6X heads. California models had only the Oldsmobile 403 V8 (185 hp) because of emissions regulations. High demand led Pontiac to use Chevrolet and Oldsmobile engines to meet orders in many of their models.

The data tag under the hood on the cowl is still readable. It prominently shows WS4 which verifies that this car was a Trans Am when it left the factory. The 69L and 69U designate Code 69 Brentwood Brown for the upper and lower paint. This Trans Am rides on aftermarket chrome wheels and tires. It is rougher than the other examples we have talked about but the seller says the price is negotiable.

Needs everything.
Just shy of 19k, no mention of which engine it has or if the drivetrain is original? Two quarter panels in primer mean either they were replaced (doubt it) or they’re packed with filler and/or poor patching (most likely).
7-8k car in todays market, tops.
Only high point is that the interior doesn’t appear to be total trash.
“Always has been rust free,” yet it has primered quarters.
The ex wife always wanted one… Got a brown 77 4 speed t-tops from a guy at work. Tweaked a bit engine wise.. The wife was afraid to drive it… I called the color ups brown . Ended up selling it to a ups guy
