Dismantled Survivor: 1967 Dodge Coronet 500


This 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 was supposedly purchased from the original owner 25 years ago. A restoration attempt then ensued, but this is as far as they got before putting it into storage. The original 318/auto drivetrain is still with the car and the paint appears to be original. The seller has also put the wheels back on so it can be rolled onto a trailer. Find it here on craigslist out of Omaha. Thanks goes to Robert H. for the tip! It is going to be a challenge figuring out where everything went, but the $4,500 asking price makes it tempting…


The floors have some rust, but for the most part look solid. If there isn’t any rust-through, we would probably treat any corrosion with POR-15 and then start the long process of reassembly. The seller claims that they have the interior and everything needed to put it back together, but unless they bagged and cataloged everything we are sure a few pieces have gone missing over the years. We can see parts from another car in that garage, so there may be other treasures lurking in there too.


It seems that whenever a person starts their first restoration, they always kick things off by removing random bits here and there. Bolts get lost and the memory of how it went back together fades, so there it sits in a disassembled state. Eventually, hope is lost and the project is sold. Let’s just hope that the next owner of this Coronet has a very good shop manual and a lot of patience.

    Think of other cars I would rather spend $4500 on then have to restore. I am no expert but the floors look a little scary to me.
    In HS a guy had one in this blue with a white top. Thought it was a pretty good looking car then and still do for that matter,

    The truly scary part is that this is a unibody car and they have cut away all of the front structure save the shock towers and lower frame rails. That is going to be fairly difficult to fix, not to mention find parts for. Even if they are available, they won’t be cheap. Plus, then you have the problem of sourcing all of the little bits and pieces that have gone missing over the years like trim clips, nuts, bolts, etc. Sorry, but I tend to think I could find a complete running and driving 318/automatic Coronet 500 for similar money. This thing is worth maybe $1500 to the right buyer with the right skill set.

      Good point Jim-Bob! I hadn’t even realized it had been cut up. Fixing that should be fun…

      i think that the car was going to be made into a drag car with full cage and a bolt-on front end sheet metal. if someone wants to finish this project as a drag car/race car it might be worth the time/cost. don’t see it being restored back to stock, but i could be wrong.

        You are probably correct, I don’t follow bracket racing but I am guessing they do this.

      I was looking at that , why on earth was that done? I am guessing that who ever did this found out it was a huge mistake & that is why the project stalled. It can be fixed with a used front clip but at what cost, this will be very labor intensive.

        i think it will take a body shop with a good frame machine. the cars i saw, back in the day, being made into a drag race cars were bolted to a fixture to keep them from twisting. not unbolted until after complete cage welded in.

        Laser aligner ( measuring devise ), no frame machine needed here, it isn’t bent it’s missing & needs to be replaced.

    Heck, it looked pretty good before they got busy being mickey mouse mechanics, I would have been happy to have driven it the way it was.
